Default need help trying to ID this problem

yesterday my brother (codyusa) and I went to autoX. This was his first time and he drives a 1987 vet. after 6 runs or so, I noticed that his windshield was cracked along the bottom near the wiper blades. he had washed his car the day before, and believe me, he would have had noticed it. the crack is
approximately 18 inches long. my question is, can the body of the car flex so much as to crack the winshield - he had his glass top on.
the motor is a 383 and puts out a little over 500 hp at the rear wheels.

I've seen it happen on Jeeps(flat glass) and it happened on my pick up truck as well. So far neither of my vettes have flexed to the point of breaking glass, although I'm sure it is possible.
