I got my Vettequest mount for my Valentine One today- a nice piece indeed, but I have some problems. How do you run the telephone wire into the rear view mirror? Which wires do you connect and how do you connect them? Will just any phone line work or should I order the hard wire install from V1? I'm not very handy, nor am I an electrician. Photo instructions would be great!
Re: My Vettequest radar detector mount problem... (CorvetteRay)
I'm not familiar with the V1 wiring but you might want to buy a hardwire kit from them. This way you have the option of running the wire behind the windshield header trim directly to the fuse box (or to the accessory connection near the cigarette lighter) for power and finding a ground near the fuse box (or at the accessory connection). This would probably be easier than trying to hardwire off the mirror.
If you are not too handy it may be difficult to direct wire to the RVM as there are several wires that run in there you will need to test to see which is the hot for the switched lamp on the mirror. Also, you will probably need to shorten the cable and this would probably require a phone jack crimp tool and possibly a soldering gun.
Hope this helps. If it doesn't, a place like Best Buy or anywhere that does car stereo installs should be able to get you set up.

take the mirror off, and run the wires through the mirror mount hole on the header piece. don't tie into the map light mirror. Instead, you can run wire over to the vanity mirror on the visor (mine is on the passenger side). You can't mess it up, you only have two wires there. You can splice into them, and there is plenty of room to add an in line fuse, available at any auto store for minimal cost. I had problems when I tied into the mirror map lights.... Good luck!!! :yesnod:

Like vetteboy88, I ran the wire throught the mirror bolt hole and under the windshield molding. However, I continued on and ran it behind the passenger-side pillar molding down to the fuse box located on that side of the dash. Connect to an ignition-on terminal, and you are done.
I modified the V-1 clip-on holder (the one that comes with the V-1 to hold it onto a visor) by maching a wedge-shaped block that accepts the mounting bolt on one side and is expoxied to the clip-on holder on the other. My V-1 sits nice and level, just below the rear-view mirror, has a good "view" out both the front and rear windows, and is on when the ignition is on.
