For three years my car has been a daily driver, assuming it wasn't strewn across the garage being modified. We finally got my dad's 1946 pickup running in good shape and I said I'd drive it to work during the summer on the nice days. I hadn't driven the Vette since Friday, but I drove it this morning because I'm gonna be out late and the headlights on the truck SUCK.
Anywho this old truck is a blast to drive but you don't really wanna push it over 60. It'll do 70, maybe even 80 but you'd never get it stopped from that speed. I got in the vette this morning and before I knew it I was doing 113 on the interstate :nono: :nono:
I just absolutely never gave it a thought. The car was so solid at such a speed I had no idea I was going that fast until I looked down. Of course I guess all the other cars I was passing would have been a good indicator. By the time I noticed my exit was coming up quick so I got off. Low and behold I found myself doing 60 in a 45 :smash: :smash: :smash:
Now I'm not the kind of guy who can afford that kind of ticket. I'm always very aware of my speed and it's rare if I'm going as much as 5 over. I guess the calibration on the butt-o-meter got out of whack from driving the truck.
Any other daily drivers out there experience this? If for the last three years I had only driven my car on the weekend I feel sure I'd be dead by now.
Re: Question for the daily drivers. (Nathan Plemons)
Yeah Nathan I have to be careful and not overdrive the brakes and handling on my Suburban after I drive my vette daily for a while. I also have to watch myself in the vette when I switch back. I think it's a good problem to have to deal with.

Re: Question for the daily drivers. (Nathan Plemons)
Last week I had just returned from a 102 mile round trip in the vert with the top down (I also have muffler elims). I got into my daily driver to go to work and found myself doing 90 on the Interstate because it was so quiet!
Re: Question for the daily drivers. (Nathan Plemons)
I love driving my Corvette and am attuned to its performance. I can tell within a few mph how fast I am going without looking at the speedo. Where I get into trouble, is when I drive my wife's Lincoln Towncar. The ride is so soft and quiet, I think I'm close to the speed limit and I'm 30 mph OVER! I don't think the NHP will accept that as an excuse. And like you, Nathan, the cost of a ticket isn't going to "make my day"! In the Corvette, I can run over a flea and can tell you its sex. In the Lincoln, I could run over a VW Bug and get cited for hit-and-run.
I find myself driving like a bat out of hell after I play Need for Speed; Hot Pursuit II on X-Box. :steering: I also find myself doing about 90mph when I drive my wife's Honda Accord. Too dag on quiet!
I sometimes try maneuvers that require the vettes torque/hp, making me not so liked on the expressway at times! The Buick doesn't cut it (and yes, it really was my Dad's before I bought it!). :seeya
Re: Question for the daily drivers. (Nathan Plemons)
Yeah me too Nathan, My daily driver is an extended cab Silverado and it handles like, well you know. The other day I was gauging my turn on the interstate with the ole butt-o-meter and nearly lost it, I fishtailed a little trying to slow down and get things corrected. I said Damn, what happened, then I realized that I was doing 65 in a merge designed to handle around thirty mph. Sound familiar??? Yup you guessed it, I forgot I wasn't in the Corvette. It kinda scared me for a minute there? So the anwer is...Yeah, been there, done that, got the T-shirt! :lolg:
Re: Question for the daily drivers. (Nathan Plemons)
I think the butt-o-meter works pretty good for me in the Vette. To me, when I am driving fast in the Vette it feels like I'm driving fast.
It is nothing like my '79 Suburban so I don't get confused. My wife's Accord is also not a whole lot like the Vette. No confusion there.
The problem I have is when I get back in the Vette I forget how fast it gets up to speed. Getting on the freeway I stomp the gas, check the mirrors, look around, merge. Next thing I know I'm doing 90 and hoping there are no cops around. The engine sound covers the wind sound while you are accelerating. Once you get off the loud pedal its obvious from the wind that you have to slow down. :steering:

Re: Question for the daily drivers. (Nathan Plemons)
I go between the vette and a 2004 Chevrolet avalanche. They're so different, I have to get used to the one I'm driving all over again if I've been driving the other for a while. Here lately, though, I've been driving the heck out of the vette.....it's kinda new to me, ya know.
Re: Question for the daily drivers. (Nathan Plemons)
I normally drive one of two BMW's ('90 325 4WD or '94 525i(thks grandma :blueangel: )) It is the nature of those cars to want to be driven fast, they are exceptionally tight while being smooth, sporty but subdued feedback. It's in the turns they really shine versus the Camry crowd. Meanwhile, the Vette is loud and rough, just the way a near race car should be. It is very easy to find myself cruising at 85+ in the Bimmers while the Vette's level of "feedback" gets more and more noticeable as I go faster.
However, I cannot resist sprinting to 100+ several times while out in the Vette, never by accident though. It gets there so fast it doesn't seem like a big deal.
Re: Question for the daily drivers. (Nathan Plemons)
yep, i got a 4 cylinder probe i drive in the winter and on occasion during the nice months, if i get use to driving the probe and go to the vette, the vette gets to speed so effortless it often find myself speeding too.
