My new hood & bumper cover will be getting a fresh coat of factory color black. However, the body shop is offering a fair price on some ghosted flames. Supposed to be subtle, nothing flashing or bright but I am still leaning towards NOT doing it.
Any thoughts from my fellow forum members? Think you can change my mind? :)
I am not much for flames on vettes but I have seen some that I liked. But that is just me.I would like to have a ghost silver GS stripe on my black 86.
I saw some AWESOME ghost flames on a black '99. It's obviously a completely different body style with more rounded corners, etc., but I can't imagine it would look bad on your ride. I say go for it!
Ghost GS Stripes???
Have you any pics of a vette with that?
I think the flames, well, I think ours are too square to look right. However ghost flames are awesome and it is your car. I mean heck, its not a triple decker spoiler right... :jester
I plan to do the same to my car. But before you do it, check out some of their previous work. Ghost Flames if done correctly look great on a C4 -- but if not done properly....... :cry

:iagree: Check out there previous work first, if it looks good then I say go for it.
thanks for the feedback. I have seen a recent C5 this shop "ghost" flamed. The guy is taking it back to be done over. They are so ghost they pulled a casper... as in you can't see them!!! I looked for a couple of minutes & it wasn't until he pointed them out & then only a hint could be seen...
I also thought about the ghost GS stripes & like that idea too. Makes more of a statement about having a bit of GS soul lurking in the fibers of the glass. :yesnod:
As an owner of a bodyshop and having done many flame jobs (ghost and otherwise) I don't suggest putting stuff like that on a daily ride. We recently did a pickup that was silver with silver/blue pearl ghost flames. He had some damage on the door and we had to go back and REDO the ENTIRE side. (the main reason I didn't flame my recently painted blown, bigblock'd, tubbed S10)
The other thing is, if it's a custom car that's driven more as a weekend warrior, it's cool but to have it EVERY day gets a little old. Over the last 20 years, I can't tell you how many "I've told you so" sayings I've had with customers that chose wierd or what I call "cheesecake" colors. (cheesecake color=any color that is cool as long as it's on someone else's car, it's like cheesecake, too much at one time is too rich)
Obviously it's your car so you should do it if you like it... just remember that it's not cheap to go do over if you get bored with it later.

PS. If you do decide to get some, do yourself a BIG favor. Ask to see some of the painter's work so you can see the quality for yourself. Also, MAKE VERY CLEAR YOUR choice of flames. What looks good to him make not to you. Flames are very ambiguous.

Now that's a great idea. Ghost hash marks and a stripe. Wow! :hurray: Way better than flames. Way classier too. (Not that there is anything wrong with flames, in the right situation). But on a C4 with ghost GS markings, sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
I don't mean to be the devils advocate here but, your bigger problem is can they color match the hood and bumper to your car?I have a black 92 that had the hood repainted, now years later the hood looks awsome but it doesn't match the doors or rearend. :chevy
As Homer would say, "Doah!". I sure hope they can match the factory black... Although over the years I've noticed it has a hint of dark brown to it??
I am actually walking down in a bit to see how things are going. Never heard a price on flames & after more feedback have really decided against them. The $ can be spent on more important things to make the car handle/go/stop better.
I will ask about the ghosted GS hash marks though... That is small enough area that future problems will be minimized.
