Having only owned a 1991, someone asked me what the difference was between the 1991 and 1992 vette? He said he heard that the 1992 was a better vette. Besides the 50hp increase, is the 1992 a better vette in terms of the ride and overall quality? etc?
Besides the obvious engine differences, that I won't debate, I believe that it depends on options, options, options. My 91 is twice the car that my 92 is. The 92 currently makes more power, but I would drive the 91 over the 92 anyday. It really boils down to what YOU want!

Is a stock LT1 faster than a stock L98 in the 1/4 mile? yes
Does it "feel" faster than a L98? No
L98 is probably easier to mod....just because the LT1 is such a specialized engine (reverse cooling or something I think it is called...cools the heads first)
The golden rule of Vette ownership is: Buy the newest you can afford..
I would rather have a '96 LT4 over either the LT1 or the L98 :D

Not much less torque. I think its 10ft lbs?
The opti is an easy problem to fix after you learn about it.

This is subjective. I think the LT-1 is easier to mod than the L98.

The way I feel about the 91 92 coparison is that the 91 is the most unique C4 with the "old" (L-98) engine and the "new" body style. When my 96 LT-4 fell into my lap I was looking for a 91. In my opinion it's an easier engine to work on and I think it's easier to find parts and cheaper to mod. And from driving both LT-1's and 6 spd L-98's I think they do feel faster. But the extra rpm's out of the LT-1 will get you down the strip quicker. Both are great cars but for my $ I would go with the 91.

I'm Biased possible because I have a 92...but as far as finding hotrodd parts... I don't have any problem finding good stuff and the price is not that different (it costs $$$$ to go fast)
:withstupid: I do agree with those who say the 91 is a unique car..best looking C4 body with the older L-98.
I do love my LT1 though..she was a runner from day one and just gets better and better :reddevil (of course I have nothing to do with that..it just grows all those go fast parts on it's own) :lolg: :lolg:
So I guess it really boils down to what shape the car is in now and what you want to do with it...
Well, I thought this thread was about comparing the "ride and overall quality" of the'91 to '92. It seems everyone seems to get back to the engines... From what I remember, when the '92 came out Chevy claimed to have improved the sound deadening, and came up with some adhesives to address alot of the squeek and rattle issues. I'm not sure about the area of ride quality. When I was shopping for a Vette, I considered an '88 to '91 model then the '92 came out and I remember reading of all the improvements Plus the LT1. So I waited and buy the time I had saved enough $$ it was November '93. The '94's were out so I got a great deal on my '93. I think all Vettes are great cars and each one has her own quirks. I mean...I've never had a problem with my opti, and I used to wash out my engine compartment every now and then.....Go figure
That is why I brought up the options issue. For instance, my 91 has a Z07 suspension and FX-3 shocks, sport seats, a D44, and a ZF-6. My 92 has a base suspension, standard seats, and a 700R4. The cars are completely different, yet they are the same. (if that makes sense) Don't get hung up on years. Buy the car that you like!!!!
Well I don't have a 92 but my 95 ofcourse is an LT1. Mine has 300hp and 340lbs of torque. I think the 91 has 250hp and 350lbs or torque so it does have 10lbs more of torque. Not saying which is better or worse but my 95 has the 3.07 gears and I raced a buddy of mine at the trackhe has a 90 and I pulled a 13.2 stock and he was 14.1

I bought a new '91 and a year later traded it in on a new '92. I traded originally because I hated the auto and wanted 6 speed. The 300hp of the LT1 was also temping me. My experience is that the '92 rides so much better (less harsh when hitting bumps for sure), probably do to suspension changes and GS-C tires that came on it. The new absolutely has less squeaks and rattles (at about 12 years old and 39,000 miles, it's still quieter than the '91 was brand new). It was like a completely different level of car from the '91 to the '92 for me. However, the Bose Gold system in the '92, IMO, is just as big a POS as it was in the '91, needing almost $500 dollars of repair to front speaker/amps and CD player at this very moment.
I've never driven a 91, but I love my 92. When I got my car back in 2000, I got such a deal on it, I didn't even THINK of buying an L-98, fine as an engine as it is. Get the best car you can afford, 'cuz it's all good when it comes to Corvettes!
