I need to replace the door panels on my 85 coupe. I want to get the deluxe panels complete with the top trim and arm rests.
I'd like to hear from anyone who has purchased replacement panels regarding the quality and fit of the panels. Where did you buy them? Did the color match?
It looks like the price from all the vendors is about the same, around $400 per panel for the deluxe ones.
I've searched the archives but didn't really see any good info there.
I just replaced the door panels on my '87 Convertable. I was dreading the replacement cost, but was very satisfied with what I got. The best price I found was from http://www.tld-corvette.com/index.htm. I ordered them on a Friday, and two boxes arrived on the following Wednesday. They were the deluxe door panels that came with everything installed (carpet, upper trim, arm rests, weatherstrip, defroster vents). The only thing to be done is cut the front speaker openings, and swap out the plastic door handle area from your old panels. The graphite color matched nicely, and the fit and finish was excelent. The only other thing I did to them was to add reinforcement steel under the upper trim moulding mounts. That was the first thing that separated from the old door panels. The car looks so much better with brand new panels now.
The convertable pair was $750, and the coupe pair is in the $6?? range.
I just replaced the pair in my car. There are only two companies that make these panels and ive had both.Auto Accessories Of America is the pair I finelly went with. They were o.k. as far as quality goes. One panel was cracked and then repaired at the factory. When I called to question a replacement got a little grief from the company.I went ahead and kept it,no telling what a replacement would be like. The fit was not as good on one of the panels.Anytime you bolt a bunch of aftermarket crap together its not gonna fit right. One thing that im furious about is one of my new G.M.trim pieces for the top of the door panel is already got bubbles in it where the glue has let go,its only been in the car for less than two months. :mad
i also purchased new door panels from tld corvette. door panel color was right on and quality was the best that i've seen in a repo panel. i would have liked new gm originals- but pocket book says different
