I have a Red Top Optima on my 94 C4. It is was bought new 2 years ago and now won't hold a charge. It went dead after not being started for 2 months this past winter. Now after jump starting it is OK, but after a week of not being used goes dead again. Everything else seems to be OK. What do you think...time for a new battery. I thought these Optima's were supposed to be good. I didn't have this problem with my AC Delco.
Perhaps you have a drain on the battery that has just started. You could disconnect the battery for that length and see if it runs down on its own. Or, do one of the many battery drain tests that have been chroniciled and see if its higher than normal. Do a search on Battery Drain or Drain Test.
I've always been extremely happy with my Optima, but you'll get opinions on both sides of the fence. Make sure something else isn't draining the battery.
I just read an archived post on a Drain Test. It gave a list of the top reasons for battery drain. One of them was a defective Bose Amp Relay under the right dash. I think this may be my problem. Last time I tried to start the car it would not start but had a little juice. I heard a clicking noise in the right dash while the key was off. Could this be the AMP relay.
