I ordered the black one from MAD. It says "static cling, but I the same problem with it sticking. I used the gray side to stick to the top. I started by cleaning the inside twice. Used a spray bottle of water and misted the surface. Placed the liner in and squeeged off the excess. Been on for almost a year with no problems.
I bought a smoked top for the needed headroom. I did not want the sun beaming down on me so I ordered one of the sunliners for it. It did not fit well at all. I gave up and gave the entire underside of the smoked top the "krylon touch".
It was a little drastic but now I have no more problems with light and the flat black blends in fine with the interior.
Vader I was thinking of geting one of those static cling sunliners myself.
But if they wont stick worth a darn I may just have to spend the extra money
and get the headliner Blackout from Mid-America. Its a solid piece that
holds in place with plastic tabs. Anybody have any experience with this
product???
I am on my second sun blockout headliner from MAD. Got the 1st one about 5 yrs ago and sold it when I sold the car. Just got the new one for the BEAST and the install tabs are better than the early design. We used it on a recent trip and it installs easy, stays in place and reduces heat from sun as advertised. Good buy for about $60 from MAD. We'll never be without one, esp since we could never get the static kind to work and they provide no insulation value.

1. Install between 65 and 90 degreese F, out of direct sunlight or excessive heat.
2. Remove roof panel. For best adhesion, be sure panel and film are clean and free from debris, lint and dust. It is recommended that a cleaning solution be made of 2 tablespoons of baby shampoo such as "no tears" per gallon of warm water. A solution of 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water can also be used to clean both surfaces. Dry surfaces with a dust free and silicon free cloth. Silicones and similar aerosols affect the static cling properties of the film. It is imperative that the work environment be absolutely free from these contaminants as well as air-born particles of dust that may adhere to the glass surfaces or to the static side of the film. Special care should be taken when cleaning the glass of stubborn deposits such as tobacco smoke residue.
3. Unroll Top Shade and place the shiny side against the glass (the shiny side is the only side that will adhere to the glass). Position the shade evenly on the panel, using the palm of your hand start in the middle and work to the edges. A soft rubber squeegee is also good for smoothing out the air bubbles. If bubbles occur, peel back the closest edge to the bubble to release air and smooth back to edge as before. If film appears to have lost its static properties, after cleaning steps have been followed, tumble film and a damp cloth in the clothes dryer on low heat setting for about 2 minutes. Be careful not to overheat. If wrinkles occur, the material can be ironed on low heat protected by a thin damp cotton towel.
4. To remove Top Shade, simply peel back one corner, then pull gently off of panel.
5. When not in use, roll Top Shade and store out of direct light.
I installed mine with the top still on the car. The grey side sticks to the top and I used a damp cloth to smooth it out the bubbles. The tiny holes allow you to still see out of the roof but protects against direct sunlight. I've had mine for a little over a year and no problems!

Can you still see through the glass top with this?
Yes, I can still see through, its just not as bright.
I cleaned the top and spent about an hour getting out air bubbles, I hope it stuck overnight.
But if it hasnt, I may have to buy the solid piece that snaps in.
Ive got one of the solid ones from mid america. It is padded and looks like a regular headliner. I have only used it a couple of times, then I bought a painted top for summer. Been meaning to sell this thing, but have been lazy. If ya want it, let me know and Ill make you a good deal on it.

I bought one of those from Mad this spring, I put it in and it the cloth side hung down from the plastic main piece, then I decided I didn't want to put up with that so I went to pull it out and both loops you pull on to take it out came off in my hands. It's propped against the wall in my garage waiting for garbage day
Rub the shiny side with a dry cloth and create the static. Works great.
Yes, this is in the directions. Got the same one from MAD over a year ago, with the holes. Looks great, works great, no problems at all, and have been very happy with it.
Another thing to try is the micro fiber cloths that 3M and others are selling. I'm kind of partial to the 3M as I work there but anyway if you rub the top on both sides with a new micro fiber cloth you'll have enough static to make your hair stand when in the car. At least that's what happens after I clean the top. Good luck!
Had mine for four years, on in the summer, off in the winter. Never had a problem. Silver side up to help reflect sun.
Had mine 7 years, no problem, it helps if the top is warm or hot,,, rub on the top of the roof panel with a cotton cloth until you hear the static build up.
Also, it is easier to do with the top off the car.
Mine was junk! didn't stick properly and couldn't install it without getting "wrinkles" and forget about the other headliner insert that they sell... it doesn't fit and requires trimming - which of course voids the warrantee and makes it non-returnable. Then if you are able to make it fit the South Florida sun is so hot - that a week later it warped so bad, that it wouldn't fit any more... just another piece of junk. Luckily for me I have BOTH tops, a painted fiberglass top and a transparent top.
Good luck - hope my "bad" experience saves you $$$$
