Default Passive Keyless Entry

My, Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) system is no longer working. I have done google searches and most point to the key fob not the PKE transmitter. But my problem seems to be with the in-dash transmitter.
When I press Trip-Odo Twice then Fule Info (with the ignition key in the on position) the PKE light stays. The Key Fob is not even part of the system until the PKE light flashes. My PKE light does not even flash it just stays on steady.
Am I correc to assume it is the transmitter in the dash?
If so, where can I get information on how to replace it?
If anyone has had the dealer do this please provide a price please!
Thanks

You can pull codes from your 95 by gounding pins in your DLC. If your not familiar with the system go to c4vettes.com for an explanation. If you want to try it ground pins 8 to 4 to querie your CCN re; the PKE module. If you come up with some codes, post them. If your not comfortable with the system it may be better to have it diagnosed by a dealer or such.

The receiver portion is located behind the DIC, requiring removal of the upper trim pad. The key fob is the transmitter.

The receivers do occasionally fail. Mine died and it was a real PITA job to replace - as someone stated above, the dash pad has to come off. Do yourself a favor and absolutely, positively rule out all other possibilities before you replace the receiver.

Wow, I posted your exact email in almost those exact words like 1 month ago..

I have pretty much determined it IS the PKE receiver behind the radio and under the dash pad...

I have your exact symptoms!!

If/when you order a new part, make sure you have your VIN#, cuz they have to be exact... (that's what Dal Slabaugh told me...) he'll sell it to you for under $190...

I bought a receiver from Ebay and it worked fine. I had no idea that it somehow had to be matched, but I might have just been lucky with the particular unit that I ended up with.

Dal was mentioning something about convertibles versus coupes - so maybe all coupes are the same from all years, but I have no idea..I just go with what he tells me since I've been buying stuff from him for 6+ years as well as all of the Impala SS community.

SRAFT: Any tips/tricks on the PKE receiver swap - I've done searches here, but haven't found anything detailed. Do you think I could ONLY remove the radio (and the plastic panel behind) and do this without removing the dash pad ? I've heard touching the dash pad is likely to introduce creaks and squeaks...

Does the Door button and/or Hatch button work?

Are you sure it wasn't accidently put into non-passive mode? (Driver door open hold Door button on FOB until the locks cycle.- move out of range and back in?)

When you said the light does not flash; verify steps FOB out of range, key to On, Trip/Odo press twice, in 5 secs press Fuel/Info see PKE light On on the DIC, key to Off but leave in (not in lock position), PKE light starts flashing. Transmitter FOB bring in range.

Now the PKE light is suppose to go to steady On when it recognizes the transmitter. If it continues to flash that means it recognizes that transmitter already and is still waiting for a transmitter frequency it hasn't seen yet. (The results of that step indicate PKE System is in non-passive mode. See above.)

There are some other steps to test for if the buttons don't work.
