Default Emblem Adhesive Question

Removed both front and rear emblems as per forum, hair dryer and dental floss. Worked great. After cleaning the surface of old wax and crud now ready to replace emblems.
What should I place between the surface and the emblems as not to mar the finish?
Thanks

Some say a coat of fresh wax...others say nothing (between the two). I replaced an emblem on my previous car (non-vette) and didn't put anything between the two surfaces... It was my understanding at the time that a layer of wax will impede the adhesive quality of the new emblem. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

I just replaced the rear gas lid emblem and had a B%&$# of a time getting the adhesive off. It actually took of some paint!! :mad . So after I got the emblem off and all of the adhesive off with very mild adhesive remover I polished up the whole tank lid with Meguiars cleaner wax..then used my favorite SCRATCHOUT to get the lid looking new again. I wiped the small area where the emblem goes only with windex to remove any wax. I used touch up paint where I lost paint. I then replaced the emblem. It looks pretty good ..I can't complain.

Had no trouble getting the adhesive off. What I found worked best for me was heating it up with a hair dryer and just rubbing it with my finger.
Then went over the area with 3M Swirl Mark Remover to remove old wax and crud build up. No paint loss.

I got mine off with goo-gone and a LOT of elbow grease
Putting the one on the hood I can see just bolting it in, but the one on the gas door would be too easy to steal if you didn't glue it back somehow I bought gold emblems and they're to expensive to add to someone elses collection. What do you put under the emblem to keep it from being lifted by a collector?

next time you take an emblem off, just use a cotton towl & WD-40 to take off the adhesive. works great.

Default Bolted Emblems

I just bought replacement emblems from Mid America Motorworks (madvet.com), GM part numbers 10209060 & 10209061. These have the small posts that are secured via wellnuts. Trouble is, the emblem on my gas cap has threaded studs held on via 6mm nuts (10mm heads). Has anyone else ever run into this situation? Anyone have the part numbers handy for emblems like mine?

Thanks!
Rick
