I posted this to the ZR-1 forum, but I haven't heard anything. My friend is driving from MD to NC in his 91? ZR-1, and is experiencing a little problem. His clutch has progressively gotten worse until he is no longer able to put it in gear. The clutch pedal goes all the way to the floor, but he can't shift. He is limping it here by stopping with it in 3rd gear, and using only 5th and 6th...we think he might be low on fluid in the master cylendar, though not sure. He doesn't want to stop totally for fear of not making it at all.
Has anyone exprienced this problem in the past or have any suggestions?
I had the exact same thing on my 93.
Turned out to be a leaky clutch slave cylinder.
Have him turn the engine off and see if he can shift.
If he can, then check the fluid for the clutch cylinder.
Its under the ecm module and probably empty.
Just a refil should get him to where he is going until he can check it out.
Thanks, we were thinking it's a fluid thing as well, he was 29 miles away about 15 minutes ago, so we'll check it when he gets here...did you end up having to change the cylinder?
(By the way, thanks for the correction on the spelling to cylinder, it was driving me crazy and I couldn't figure it out!)
Alright, any suggestions on who we might try? We were hoping to leave for Myrtle Beach for the week on Saturday...nothing like a car to change your plans!
My problem was few months ago. Hopefully some are now in stock.
Check with a local dealer if you are in a hurry,
If not check with Ecklers or MID america.
I am just guessing, but if you have it running and someone looking under the hood when he pushes in the clutch you might be able to see where it is leaking from, if not you might see it dripping on the ground and follow it up.

It could also be a slow leak like I had and may be able to drive it for a while.
Mine still leaks cause I dont want to pay $110.00 for a replacement for my leaking hose.
Hey..Thanks guys! Made it in spite of the low levels of fluid in the slave cylinder. Filled er up and away we go. As far as I can see, there aren't any leaks. For now, I'm just gonna carry some extra fluid with me til I can get back home and check this thing out. Thanks for all your help and ideas.
