I read somewhere on the net that this guy was bad mouthing synthetic oil and instead of using it in his vette he uses vegetable oil instead.
Is this BS or what?
Sounds like he wants to make french fries while driving.
You'd probably get hungry everytime you go for a ride in it.
I remember in the old days, some guys would use Castrol R oil that was some kind of veggie oil, but it sure didn't smell like cooking oil. It did have a distinctive aroma.

now your cooking with crisco!
closest ive seen to veg oil in an engine usage is blendzall gold label "bean" oil for high performance 2 stroke mixtures.
looked like crisco if you opened a cold can.
he likely meant "mineral" oil instead of synthetic.
As I remember, a long time ago (ahem) some folks ran castor oil as a "break-in" oil on a new motors. They were low compression in-lines (Plymouth, etc.). I thought it was BS then, and I believe it is BS now. Would I put ANY half-baked idea into my LT1? Not hardly, Pilgrim! I run what brung me; Mobil 1.
That is BS and most likely started on the Corvetteforum by some mustang owner who would like to stand a chance to bet us.
However, you can fry your french fries in Mobil 1 and serve them for free to your mustang owner friends. I understand they go down real easy.
sounds crazy. i know from being involved in motocross that there are oils that r very similar to cooking oil. i ran them a few years back. it is castor oil. it smelled weird when it burned (2-cycle), definatly different from regular synthetic blends. now i'm sure this oil i'm talking about is different from what would run in vettes, but there may be some truth to what this guy is saying. but why wouldn't u want to just run the mobil 1 synthetic anyway?

Re: Is this BS? (vetteseniorcit)
Castor oil is a vegtable oil (from the castor bean) and is one of the finest pure lubricants available. Unfortunately, it has too many drawbacks to make it a viable alternative to our modern synthetics.
You COULD run it in a Corvette under ideal conditions, but I sure wouldn't.
