What in the world...
Was this guy thinking? I had an Idiot back onto the hood of my Vette today, with a full size van. He said the alarm went off, but he did not realize that he had hit anything until the van could go no further backwards. He says that the rear of his van went high enough to lose traction and that was when he realized that he may have hit something. He then looked into the mirror and saw my Vette under his van.
He was nice enough to explain this to the Police Officer and take full responsibility for the accident. He was in a company van and his boss called the Police while him and I were talking.
I wonder if I can get it fixed before Carlisle. And by the way....Lisa is pissed and would like to kill the moron for what he did. The cuts in the Hood go completely thru and the Hood is very soft in that area now. I don't think Lisa can buff this out.
Here are some Pics...

Gaaack! Your car was SO BEAUTIFUL! Last month I had the body shop repair some scratches and scrapes. He repainted each full panel but could not get the 17 year old paint to match! Here are the pics!
I hope your painter does better than mine. Actually I made out pretty good as he repainted the rest fo the car and gave me a great deal. (got the whole thing painted nicely for under $1,800!). Good luck guys. If you remember I was roaming around Carlisle last year taking pics of beautiful cars and yours was one of my picks. Did not know who you were then. Best wishes and see you at the show!

I hate to single out any one group or paint with a broad brush but it sure seems like, in general, that van and minivan drivers are among the most slow-witted on the road. Sorry about your bump-up. Hope it gets fixed to your complete satisfaction.

Perhaps you should talk to the insurance company about other corvette owners having bad experiences with paint matching and insist they paint the entire car.

When I had my '97 Trans Am my friend backed up all the way onto the hood while in his Dakota R/T. The paint completely splintered off from where his tailpipes had hit. Luckily it was hard to see, it was more under the bumper where things were damaged. Needless to say he payed my next car payment and insurance payment
well, new hood and bumper plus paint there.
ever consider the newer style look?
spring for a newer rear bumper and its there.
think i would insist putting a car like yours back the way it was.
new bumper and hood and full painting due to impossible matching.
dont forget the clearcoat.dont want to have half a new clearcoat job.
if they can match the color, maybe at least get full clearcoat.(total sand).
that bites. hopefully you can get a good corvette bodyman to make the car right again.they will be the ones that can say for sure what its gonna take to renew it.
to bad a bra wont quite cover it for your trip.
good luck with it.curious to hear how it comes out.

The only thing Lisa really wants from the guy who hit the Vette is CASTRATION .She feels he should never reproduce or even think about it. Oh she is still pissed. Well I'm off to get some estimates.

I may be out of line here, but it's only a car. It can be fixed. Lucky no one was hurt. Heck, the guy coulda took off - at least he accepted responsibility. Sheesh. Give him a break - people make mistakes.
Word of advice - I always park in a safe spot: back of the lot, next to a pole, take up two spots, etc.
Quite frankly that just makes me want to trash a car intentionally. Taking up two or three spots by parking the wrong way tells me a whole lot about your attitude.

................If this is the best color match this shop could get the guys blind. Is it the angle of the picture or is it really that bad.I remember this post maybe a month ago. This is total incompetence, total.I wouldnt have had that shop do anything for me after that no matter how cheap it was.As far as the 84 goes,it sounds like you may need a new hood and possibly a new bumper if the cuts are deep enough.

ya like stay away from my car with your doors and shopping carts.. i always take two spots everywhere i park.. i am not paying for a new paint job because someone does not respect a nice vehicle..
I had a Gold T/A in 79 that someone hit. They could not match the paint correctly and I jumped up and down like a short stop until they had to paint the WHOLE thing over. Don't let them get away with leaving you a 2 tone Vette!

Well the estimates are in....$4000 average and they will have it done before Carlisle. Now I need to get off my AZZ and get me a Hood shipped in. I'm starting the ball rolling before I settle with the insurance company. Either way it turns out with them, The Vette has to be repaired. Out of the 3 places that I went, #1 was extremely busy and had many cars waiting in line ( including an 85 ) but since he is a customer of mine, He said he could make it happen. #2 REFUSED to work on the Vette ( He said we are to particular ) #3 is a Chevy dealership and he came in @ $3663, but they did not look like the quality of work that I want. I'll keep updating as things happen.
I backed into the rear wheel of a passing truck in my schools parking lot...last year.
Moderate paint damage to the right rear corner of the car. He was unscathed...but I had a cracked bumper, and large splotches of paint missing.
I talked to one of my dad friends i nthe car business, who raoms around with a truck and trailor and does body work for the local saturn and pontiac dealers.
He fixed the crack, fixed some distortion, reattached a molding strip, custom matched paint and clear coated the entire bumper and rear end, then buffed it out.
It looks better than before! And it only costed me 100 dollars.
Id offer the hood on ebay, the damage is repairable, fro mthe looks of it.

Its nice to wish for this but in the real world they will most likely replace the bumper and repair the hood and match as best they can

I can't see trashing anyone's car intentionally...
...although if someone's taking up two spots they probably deserve to have their property vandalized.
"Quite frankly that just makes me want to trash a car intentionally. Taking up two or three spots by parking the wrong way tells me a whole lot about your attitude."
its that "attitude" that punks probably use when they key the side of a nice car to impress their underage girlfriend walking with them.
i cant beleive that statement came out of a vette owner.
my attitude is,park right up there if front like everyone else then dont whine when your fender gets cracked, doors get nicks and dings, kids paw all over the thing, cuz thats whats going to happen.
i park to the emptiest portion of the lots and slightly angle the car, then cross my fingers theres no punks with attitudes trying to impress their underage girlfriends.

I have several friends who are cops and, years ago, I remember a conversation we had about taking up two parking spaces, as well as other parking/driving issues. I was amazed, but not surprised to hear of the number of cases where cars/trucks and been vandalized just 'cause they were taking up two spaces -- I still park as far out as possible, but I only take up one spot.
