Mine turned out to be this check valve.
It is under the passanger side fuel rail cover.
You also will know it is this if you cruise control doesn't work as this too controls it. Hence the "T"

That is the exact "T" that was loose when my AC wasn't blowing out of the main vent.

my check valve is good. the cruise also works good. i need help to find the thread or for someone to please re-post the directions for checking vacuum at the HVAC controller and/or determining if the HVAC controller is the culprit.

thanks,

Spent some time last year trouble shooting the AC on my 96 LT1 HVAC system and it was the AC Controller. Replaced the little balck box and all is well. By the way, the "T" on my engine was OK and the Cruise Controll worked just fine also. Also the vacumn to the storage tank was also fine. After tha, it was just the removal an replacement of the AC Controller that worked.

Hope you are flexible and have small hands.

The AC controller is located behinf the dash on the firewall slightly to the left of center, After removing the hush panel, look above on the left of the air outlet duct which is in the center. One captive screw holds it into position along with 2 tabs at the top, if I recall correctly. There is a cluster of vacumn lines attached and an electrical cable attached to the controller.

The maintenance Manual says it is below LH I/P, right of steering column on bulkhead.
