Default [paging scorp] U joint tech tip

Brian, I printed your tech tip on u joint replacement and did mine this weekend.

Thank you for taking the time to do that great instruction manual with pics. It was invaluable and saved me many hours of frustration I'm sure.

I recommend that anyone contemplating doing that on their own, use that tech tip. And I might add if you are not careful, instruction 00 is a distinct possibility. :flag :flag :flag :flag :flag

I think you could add one little caviat to that.

It is really a two man job to replace the half shafts. although it can be done, its easier if someone pulls out the wheel hub while you align the U joints in the yoke. Especially if your journal caps are loose. Also maybe if they fall off, make sure no needle bearings dropped out or got out of kilter.

I dunno.... I've never needed a 2nd person. Enough WD-40 and something to pop the cap out of the spindles is usually all it takes.

I was talking about putting them back in. The bearing caps on my spicers were loose and kept falling off while I was trying to align the shaft.

Thanks again....great write up... :flag

Ahh I see. Just dab a little more grease in there and it'll hold them on. You can also put some masking tape over the cap onto the main body of the ujoint. Install them that way. The first time the wheel turns the tape will tear free and be out of the way.
