I've searched the forums but need a little advice. I'm installing TPIS headers on my 87. I have the car up on ramps (which are sitting on 2x12s for the clearance. I got the right side in no problem. The left side is a different story. TPIS says you need 25" clearance to get them in from under the car. My jack goes to 21" and my stands more like 18". I'm wondering if anyone's done this without having the car on a lift? (and how they did it) Thanks.

The right side is where I had all the problems with my Hookers. I did both headers from underneath on Rhino ramps. Hooker says you need 30+ inches of clearance, but I did it with much less than that. Drivers side should be no problem at all. That's the easy side.

I've installed hooker headers off of fairly short jackstands.
For whatever reason the drivers side is too tight (even on ramps) The slave cylinder for the clutch and the hydraulic hoses are in the way when trying from the bottom of the car. From the top the Brake booster is in the way preventing it from dropping down in....I guess I'll have to pull it off the ramps and try jacking the drivers side higher!!!

I jacked mine up a little bit off the ramps, then positioned the headers on the ground. Then I reached down from the top of the car and pulled them into position. I found it much easier that way. But I have an A4, so I didn't have to deal with a slave cylinder or hoses.
