Damaged dash while trying to replace crash pad/bread box
Howdy!
Well I started on my crashpad/breadbox project and damaged the dash cover/top in the process. One of the tabs fastened to the underside ripped out, along with the foam it was attached to, from the rest of the dash. Here is a pic
What can I use to re-secure the tab and foam back to the main part of the dash top foam? Can't foam 'melt' if glue/epoxy is used? Or just certain types of glue/epoxy?
I had a thread on this just last week... Permatex makes this stuff called "plastic weld". Works like a champ. Just stinks.
Get it at most auto parts shops that sell permatex. Pepboyz, Autozone, et.al.
Cool. Thanks.
I'm amazed I missed your thread; I've been posting and monitoring as well as searching archives to try and make this and other projects go as smooth as possible.
Now I have to figure out how to get the bottom screws out of the bread box. I think I'm going to just, as carefully as possible, remove the knee pad to get at them.

Thanks again!
eh, the thread never really did get rolling... surprised me, too...
That plastic weld is great stuff And yea, take off the bolster, stand on your head, practice bending your arm backwards, and you should get it no problem. That's how I got mine done

I'm about to start in on the plastic weld stuff. I didn't have to break my arm to get the screws out. I found a socket extension bar that I connected to a socket-screwdriver assembly and was able to reach them. It worked out very well.
Got it all back together and I am not very happy with the setup. Everything seems to fit together okay and the advice for the plastic weld worked super! But that kit from Mid America... it is *so* 'plain'. I am working on a plan to put my 10 disc CD changer in that space.
I am not sure what I am going to do with bastet44's 87... her dash looks sooo icky and she would love a glove box...
I tried to figure out how to do a glove box. The only thing I could figure out was having someone make a pouch out of leather and fasten it to the black plastic 'blank' Mid America sent. In the end I felt it best to do nothing and think long and hard about what I'm going to do with it.
Touch sensitive flat panel tied to computer with wireless network card to download MP3's from household file server? Fold out tray with drink holders? Move the CD changer there? If I do the whole computer/touch panel project I wouldn't really need the stereo.
Like I said, I'm going to take some time to think about the next level of this project.
