Default Changing sound system

Hi,
On my 91 coupe my bose gold series sound system is now out of order
the CD doesn't worak anymore, the bose front amp and speakers only make sorts of "screeeesshshhhhshshshsh"

So i think it's time to change

so I have a lot of questions:

1° can I use a double DIN format car radio ? or it's easier to use a simple DIN format ?

2° how can I put new speakers?
3° Can I use existing wire for my new speakers ?

thanks for your reply.

If you have any pictures of light sound installation in vettes....

I just went through this and your in for a project!
1) I used simple din. Don't know about the double.
2) The rears are reasonably easy. The doors are another story!
I did it but first problem is getting the bose out of there, no
short cuts just a lot of time and patience. The Haynes manual
tells how to remove the door panel, but removing the bose speakers
is another story. I found out that if you can to take apart the
enclosures inside the door and then remove them seperately it is
easier. I manufactured my own holders to put in place of enclosures
to hold the speakers to the door. and it worked out fine. Again plan
on an hour or two on each door.
3) I used the bose speaker wires and it worked fine.
Good Luck!!!!

In my 91, the rear speakers are now 6X9 and there are 5 1/2" lower speakers. Either speakers are very simple to get to. The rear speakers covers are held in by 4 screws (if I remember correctly). They pop off in less than a minute. The lower ones are by the floor mats and are pretty simple too. You have to remove the entire door sill assembly (3 screws I believe). I have a couple of pictures on my website with the speaker covers removed. Check my sig.

I think double DIN is too big (tall); DIN and a half will fit, I believe, but they are hard to find and expensive. A standard DIN mount will work fine with an adapter (usually an additional $20).

There's no reason you can't use the existing wires, unless you go with an amp (then you will want to run new wires). BTW, I know you want a light installation, but if you can afford to go with an amp, it will make your system sound SO much better to have some decent power behind it. In my other car, I kept the stock speakers, but put an amp in and was blown away at how good those stock speakers sound!

I fit a small amp in the compartment behind the passenger seat.

As others have said, 6x9 in the rear... easy install. And you have to get the Bose "boxes" out of the doors, but you can do it without destroying them... you just have to take the door panel off and work at it some. I put 5 1/4" in the door and tweets in the dash, too (makes for great sound when you're at freeway speed with the top off )

Best of luck... let us know how it turns out!

the 91 has the new interior, which has a double DIN opening just like my 92.
