Just bought a 94 roadster with 49K miles for $14,000...closest I could get to a C5 was a 98 with 85K miles @ $21,000...coupe... To be honest, I thought real hard about it...but I feel I made the right choice by going with the 94...and I got a full convertible and very nice car!
Again i just bought a 99 coupe that i just won a trophy with last sunday against 18 cars in the class with 42k miles and its loaded for 22K. Anyone who thinks it takes anywhere near 30 to find a nice c5 is way outta touch with the market. Sure i got a deal but shouldnt we all
I don't know where you guys are getting prices from. I just bought a pretty much showroom new 99 last month loaded with just about every option they had then (HUD, Active Handling, etc) It also had a Borla Stinger exhaust and chrome Y2k wheels for 22k it had right at 42,000 miles which is nothing. There is another one at a dealer down the road from there right now with only 21k miles for 23k.
You can get a NICE, well optioned low mile C5 for low 20's all day right now. I LOVE C4's and owned 2 but could not go back now. These C5's are just too good and too cheap to pass up. You can get coupes all day from 20-25 in nice shape and verts for 24-30.
Good luck, you can't go wrong.
I agree. I just traded in my VERY high mileage 93 C4 and bought a 2001 Z06 with 13,900 miles for $31k (not including trade in of my 93). This Z06 is just like new. And, the Z06 will run circles around any factory C4 or C5 (not including the ZR-1 or modified C4s or C5s). The power the Z06 has is incredible!!
Actually, I don't know where you guys are paying those prices for C4's. Last summer I bought a 90 six speed convertible with 65,000 miles for $10,600. Looks like new.
"Anyone who thinks it takes anywhere near 30 to find a nice c5 is way outta touch with the market."
Not really a 01-04 vert with even decent mileage is still way in the 30s. I personally have to have a vert and after having a 99 if I ever have a c5 again it'll be a later version of the ls1 which is 01-04.
If I were going to sell my 96 red/red coupe with 39K miles and 99% perfect condition I would want about $18K but realistically I would get a buyer for about $15. Perhaps a Corvette dealer might buy it but would sell it for $4K more than what it was purchased for.
Now if someone would tell me how to insert a photo you could see my car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don;t know i just won some hardware in a car show in my C5 with low miles that was cheap. Prices are just dropping like rocks. You can't say C5's are expensive at this point. You can find whatever you want except Z06 and even thet is coming down a little for under 30 and in most cases closer to 20. Sure there are ragged out ones out there. They are now in the mid to high teens if you really look. a VERY nice 98-00 is gonna run 20-25 coupe and 23-28 vert. I know cause i just bought.
