Hairline scratches in Plexi-Top
Hello!
After a couple of washes (hand wash, wool mitt) I have noticed, from the inside of the car looking up, many little hairline scratches that are so fine that they can only be seen when the sun hits them just right and they also can't be felt when I run my fingertips across the top I certainly don't think this is normal, but is there a product that I can polish or wax the top with to erase these lines and protect it from further damage?
I can't believe they are there, I am normally so gentle with my washes!

it's not your fault, well, maybe a little.
it's caused by driving and such... the scratches are caused by things hitting the top and flexing of the top. Techincally, it's called "crazing".
Not much you are going to do to stop it, sad to say.
Just minimize it. And let your insurance company buy you one after the next hail storm.

This is going to sound a bit crazy, but when I was in the Navy we used an abrasive polish on the jet canopies. It was this white stuff that you put on, let cure a bit then rubbed off. Reminds me of Z5 It was important to have a high quality finish.
Aircraft canopies are made of polycarbonate (PC), not acrylic (PMMA) but both are similar when it comes to care.
Try this link and see if these methods help. http://www.angelfire.com/biz/fierosails/care.html

I'm with Bogus on this one. The thing that causes those small hair-line fractures is use. It was designed as a support member of the body and subject to flexing and twisting.

This is from normal use like washing and drying and driving. Probably not from flexing but it could be. I would use a good wax several times
which should lessen most of them.
