Don't know if anyone knows this, but FWIW, I stopped the other day at my local Ace Hardware store and couldn't help noticing the very large Key cutting station / counter (it took up the whole back of the store!). Not really expecting to get what I needed, which was a spare for my recently acquired '87 - I asked anyway.
To my amazement, he produced a elec. box that measured the "pellet", told me what the value was, then checked his blanks and said he had 2 - did I want one cut? I said how much - he said $19.99.
So I said "don't wrap it I'll wear it" and it worked perfect...keep in mind I just had a new column switch put in also, so the "master" key, tumblers, and switch were all a good fit.
Since I only got one key with the new ignition switch, I was feeling pretty good about avoiding the dealership, but I'm curious how much they (GM dealer) would have charged...anyone know?

A lot more! Someone posted this some months ago about Ace but my local store didn't have such facilities. I have heard there's a local locksmith doing them for about that price but I haven't gotten there yet. I live in dread of something happening to my one key!
No pellet...it's just a Dakota sport - a step up (small one) from your basic transportation. I guess it was the carpet instead of rubber floor that clue'd me in on that one...but the stock stereo and speakers kick butt! With the 4cyl. engine...after 6 yrs, you can imagine my excitement pushing down the pedal on the 'vette when I started checking them out - noticed an immediate difference.
