I let the car sit up for a while, and now it will not start. I am getting proper fuel pressure and I changed the coil hoping to fix the problem. The car just cranks, but sometimes it will cough and sputter after cranking. What do I need to check first? The car was running fine when parked. Thanks.
About two months the first time. I then took awhile to get new battery, put in high amp altenator, and changed coil. So it has probably been 4 months total.
No I have not checked. What do I need to do this? I did check voltage going to Ignition module and could not get over .5 volts. Manual says it should be at least 10. Is this correct? Where would the problem be if the module is not getting enough voltage and why would this go out because of the car just sitting?
I'm not familiar with the optispark; so hopefully someone else will be able to answer your questions about the voltage and the module. But one way to check to see if you are least getting electricity to the plugs is to use a timing light. If the light works, it means you are.
Another thing that comes to mind is bad fuel; but I would doubt that unless somehow water or other impurities got in there while it was sitting.
Again, not being real familiar with the '95's and optisparks, hopefully someone else will chime in and provide some help.
If it ran when you parked it and does not run now, it's probably a bad or corroded connector somewhere. They are all over you engine. I'd carefully remove each one (except alternator - that won't affect starting), spray some "tuner cleaner" from Radio Shack and replace, one at a time. Can't hurt and you may find the culprit.

1st the battery has to be all the way up.
2nd pull a plug to see if its wet or dry.
You should start a car once a week.
Make sure there is gas in the tank.
I had a similar no start problem, it would crank, but it seemed to be no spark or no fuel. Turned out the coil wire was rubbing against the water pump. Check to make sure you don't have any ignition wires touching anything they aren't supposed to be.
OK check this out. I go to the car this morning before leaving for work and it fires right up. Sounds like it is running great. I have to leave for work. I come home and go to start it up and it just cranks and coughs or sputtersafter I release the key. When I put the key in the ignition, the door cimes do not go sound off like they are supposed to do. When I turn the key to the first position, the dash warning lights do not light up. I know the ignition switch is having problems. The ignition key has a chip on it. I take it the computer reads this chip to allow the ignition to work??? If the ignition is not reading the chip properly will it disable the ignition??? If so, what do I need to check or replace to fix the problem?? Thanks for all the suggestions. I really want to get this fixed soon as I have many upgrades waiting to be installed(4QA1 shocks, RD crossframe, adjustable strut rods).
Just a guess but could it be gas that has an increditable amount of condensation/water in it? I thinking after four months, a large amount of condensation would collect.
I quess it could be the gas. I have tried both keys. It did not start this morning. How do you service the part of the ignition switch that controls the door chime? I would like to get this to work.
