I've posted a same tread at Tech/Perf, but I wasn't getting any response. I'd thought maybe I can get some attention by putting the post here. Please help.
I have 89 Corvette coupe, no modifications. Automatic transmission.
It has 105,000 miles. And as far as I know, the previous
owner didn't service the car at all. Which ticks-me-off.
I've been left with his burden.
Anyways, the shifter works fine.
I have checked the transmission fluid, and also is fine.
When I drive-off, I can feel it shifts to about 2nd or 3rd gear.
Then when I go to about 40mph it should already have shifted to
final gear. But it didn't. It keeps at 3rd.
Also, I noticed that it doesn't accelerate as usual.
Can anyone help out? I know I can count on you all.

No, it sounds like you bought his burden. First thing I would check is the TV cable adjustment. That's probably not the problem, because they usually don't just go out of adjustment unless they've been fooled with. But it doesn't cost anything to check. Who knows, it might have stretched. You could also have a varnish buildup on the throttle valve. If that's the case, you could run an additive through it, then change the fluid and filter after the additives been in for a few hundred miles.
Not sure, but it sounds like it's not going into OD. It may be the solenoid that controls that. A good transmission shop that you trust should be able to diagnose quickly for you.
my 86 has the same trans and it shifts in to OD at about 45-50 mph
depending on how hard im pushing it.I can't say with out driving it but i would say its ok.I would check the adjustment in the TV cable. If its to tight it woun't shift.I decided to rebuild it while the engine is out,the guy building it said it was fine for 160K.
