I need help finding a good honest mechanic...(I know using mechanic and honest in the same sentence is almost a joke these days)
In the SE Michigan area...around Monroe Mi.
Any help or seggestions will be greatly appreciated..
Oh yeah...a quick question, will a opti going bad cause a
cheak engine lite ??
What year is your car? You can find the codes yourself and be able to figure out what the check engine light applies to. Do a forum search- you'll find how to pull the codes.
I'm not very familiar with your year... if it works like my '85, then you should be able to pull engine codes whether the check engine light is on or not, if something is wrong, it will tell you. I'm pretty sure the opti has a code it will trip... any one know?

I would answer your question but since I'm a mechanic, I'd just be lying anyway.....

Gee Chris, he didn't even put his profession on his sig page, must be a lawyer.
But to answer your question about the opti, they usually start failing when they get wet or the bearing starts to fail. It may miss at first followed by codes (Check engine soon light) and finally it quits. If someone else is going to install it, I'd buy a replacement (new) from Chris at Superior Chevrolet @ 800-728-8267. Or, upgrade to one of either a Dyno-tech oe the LTCC system, but not too many Chevy dealer mech will do that for you. If you want to understand your Vette a little better, buy a Helm's Service Manual Set.

Post this in the Great Lakes section. I'll bet you get some responses. I live in West Michigan and Roberts Corvette service is well thought of by the Battle Creek Corvette club. Probably too far for you to drive though.
