Im on my hollydays, and thought that I would do some cheap and easy mods to my 87´.
Can you tell if these are any good? and do you have any others to add?
Remove the ceramic from the cat
Cut air intake lid
K&N filter
Cutting the air intake lid was more work than I thought it would be, that and the K&N filter can't huert, but I've heard the cut lid does not help all that much.
I also have an 87 and have done simple mods like a chip, as well as the K&N . Instead of cutting the air intake I replaced it with a high performance lid . Next I am going to replace the old air intake power coupler at the throttle body with the smooth one as well as a Motorworks throttle body Flow Booster. All together it will probably add another 10hp. They claim more But that is wishfull thinking.
I think the next best Mod that you can do which is relatively inexpensive compared with the gains in performance would be the cold air induction system $199.00 in MID or a step up...the Vortex Ram Air induction System $299.00 which seems a bit more involved but claims an HP increase of 15+ HP and 10ft lb of torque.
I will probably go for the Vortex...but am not sure. If anyone out there has installed any of these systems.... i would like to hear your thoughts ...any good or a waste of $$$$????
Good luck with your 87 !!!
im new to the corvette club. just traded in my z28 convertable for a 94 at ruby. i can say this to all those who think same engin same perfomance is b/s. this car handles so much better then a z28 and pick up is a little better. anyways ive been pretty active in the z28 forums till i bought my vette and those guys are good at making there own mods and some of them are hilarious but work. like the pvc pipe cold air intake. i was wondering how hard it would be to extend a plastic hose from the bottom of the air box to the bottom of the bumper and get a long but narrow scoop on the end. yall are probly laughing but im one of the cheapest guys you will ever meet. except when it comes to changing oil and apperances. dont worrie im not one of those teeny boppers that rice out there cars. i hate that crap
