when I bought my 87, the owner told me he had the A/C COMPRESSOR replaced with a rebuilt unit about 2 years ago. He said it needs freon as it is not too cold. I had the unit check ...no leaks ..but it only took 1 lb of freon, however the air is now Ice cold!! Is that unusual?? It seems like such a pinch of freon for such drastic results in cold air.
Could the shop be wrong...could it have taken more???

Don't have a clue about the amount but assuming it's still using R12 and given the price of R12, I wouldn't think they would make a mistake like that. If they did - you made out.

1 lb of Freon would make a huge difference. Total capacity of the system is probably 2 - 2.5 lbs (I'd have to look on the tag of my 86 to make sure). That 1 lb is probably about half of the systems total charge. A few ounces one way or another can make a drastic difference is A/C performance let alone a whole pound. If that was all it took to get ice cold air, consider yourself lucky. I learned how to A/C work myself, so I didn't have to pay the big bucks to the local A/C shops.
