Is anyone using a car alarm on their C4? I was wondering what kind of theft target these cars are and what kind of alarm system would be best. I would like to be able to install it myself without a huge amount of work, if possible. It would be nice if it had some kind of paging system to let me know when it is going off and some kind of ingnition kill to it.
Any recommendations that are reasonably priced? Thanks for any insights. I am a bit nervous taking the car someplace if I have to park it for too long. Just want it still there when I return!

A long time ago Corvettes used to be the #1 stolen vehicle. No more. Keep your VATS working and it will prevent the most common method to steal cars, bashing the column and jumping the ignition.
Your vette already has an alarm, why would you want to add another?
I had Best Buy install an Avital Model 2200 in my 87-it's great, keyless entry, remote hatch, alarm makes the OEM sound like a wimp and it kept the same VAT features. Also can add to it-auto windows, remote start-mine cost around $250 installed.
The stock alarm will work just as good as any aftermarket alarm there is as far as im concerned.I didnt catch what year car youve got but as long as you upgrade your horns, possibly air horns, nobody will mess with it.The only downside to the stock alarm is theres no visual signal,so the derelict has to open the door in order for the system to go off.Ive got two sets of airhorns on my car and they are brutal as far as noise goes.

What functions does it do with the windows? Auto up and down at the push of a button? I'm interested in what they needed to accomplish this.... I want to wire my vette this way, it'd go nice with the stereo on/off capability I have from my keyless fob.
Ok, I guess I'm in the realm of the uninformed. I did not know that there was an alarm on this thing. Sorry to sound so stupid, but what does it do? If you don't have the right key to start it, does it sound the horn or what? Guess I need to do more reading about this thing! Anything else set it off? I would take it that there is no alarm on the doors themselves. I'd appreciate someone educating me on this point. My thanks for enlightening me.

If you try a wrong ignition key the engine will not crank and no alarm will sound. The theft detterent system will cycle the car horn if a door is opened with the ignition off and the door lock switch not unlocked first, and the starter will not crank the engine.
If you received an owners manual with your car, I recommend sitting down and reading it as there are a number of things about your vette that you need to know about.
Thanks JFB. My Vette "lost" it's owners manual with a previous owner. Guess it's off to the internet to find a replacement. Sounds like I'm in for some great late-night reading! Thanks!

I kept the factory alarm, but added keyless entry, remote windows (up/down at the push of a button) and remote hatch (open). The main unit I purchased was Valet Model 710T, which provided the keyless entry and remote hatch functions. To this I added the Valet 530T Window Automation module. The instructions provided with both are pretty clear and it took me about three hours to install the intire system -- everything, to include the factor alarm have been working great for the last three plus years.
LO-JAK states that if your car is moved or disturbed in any way, you will be notified immediately, via cellular phone or pager, so that you can determine whether or not you need to report it stolen.
I have never used LO-JAK, so I can't speak from experience.
Good luck!
When I do things for my 88' C4 I do the best i possibly can. I go the Viper 791XV 2-Way Security and Remote Start System I love it. At night if my cat jumps on my car the responder unit will tell me so I can get him off. It gives you a good peice of mind, because no one really knows what their car alarm sounds like.
