You can see a little bit of my 87 vert's steering wheel in this pic. This is a leather lace-on Wheelskin from Corvette Central. Also notice the console cushion from Mid America.
I put a solid black one on mine about 3 yrs ago(about $35) and haven't had any problems. Take your time and do it right, and you'll have a hard time telling it from original. JMHO
I agree. I installed the Wheelskins on my '84--it looks a lot better now AND since it was installed over the factory leather it gives the wheel a little bit thicker grip. I found mine on eBay for about $24. Ecklers sells them as well. Well worth it! As others ahve said, take your time and follow the instructions. I think it took about an hour to do it right. As you can see in the first post, the cover comes in two tone as well as solid black.

I also read on a post several months ago about sanding it down if it is rough. The person said to work your way down to very fine paper and then use black shoe dye and then leather preservative. I did not have the guts to try it though.

Bought a "junk" steering wheel off ebay for 20 bucks. Looked like it was left to die in the sun. Using the Kiwi liquid shoe polish; Sanded, polished, sanded, polished....you get the idea.
Finished as smooth as an Olympic Beach Volleyball Gold Medal winners,
