Default Manual Trans Fluid Change

Will three bottles of the BMW Oil 10W60 be enough to change the fluid in my 6 Speed. I just noticed that each one is a 1L.

If my memory serves correctly, it takes 2.2l. Just keep pumping it in until it starts leaking out the fill hole....

Check with "ZFDOC" (or similar) on this forum about your tranny fluid. One of the guys in our local (Spokane) club drove to his state (?) for a 6-speed rebuild then reported on his experience. First Rate!

He also said to only put 2 bottles of fluid in - not 2.2 - because it gave a little room for expansion. That's second-hand information, not first-hand, but you should be able to find out here on the forum.

I'm getting ready to do mine now, and am going with the 2.0 advice.

There is a ton of room in there for expansion. Think about it, when you fill it, it's only about 1/2 the case. And there is a vent tube for pressure to release from.

The capacity is 2.2 QUARTS. The annoying part is that 1 litre = 1.05 quarts, hence, 2 litres is 2.1 quarts. argh.

And when it is filled, make sure the car is level. Otherwise, you might underfill it.
