700R4 vs 4L60E
What are the differences in these two transmissions, and what years were they available in the C4?
thanks

The only difference is that the 4L60E is controlled by the computer.
Available in 94-96.
They are otherwise identical.

In 1993, the 700R4 was renamed the 4L60(no "E")

No, In 94 when GM changed the computer to PCM instead of ECM they added the "E", which is electronically controlled by the PCM.

The non "E" trans (700r4 aka 4L60) has a TV cable thats connected from the trans to the throttle linkage. The TV cable controls line pressure during part throttle shifting. The "E" trans (4L60E) is controlled by the ECM.

Mine too! I thought it was the 700r4 until I looked at the RPO. Is there a difference??? If not, why the number change??? Anyone??

GM decided to standardize their naming system for transmissions.
Thats the only difference.

Yeah, the "4" means 4 speed, the "L" means longitudal the "E" is electronic and the number I'm not sure on, but apparently the larger the number the beefier the trans, I'm pretty sure my truck has the 4L80E
