Here is my problem. I have a 1994 Corvette coupe with the stock Passive Keyless Entry(PKE) fob. The security alarm went off one night, I don't think it was being tampered with. The security system doesn't seem to want to reset.
The horn stopped honking when I came close to the car with the PKE fob, but I can't take the key out of the ignition without the key-ding-alert occuring and the park lights won't turn off?? The car is still in some kind of alert mode.
I have tried everything easy, like start the car, open all door and hatches. The car drives fine. But the park lights won't go out and with the key in the ignition, I get a slower key-ding-alert. Pull out the key and get the faster, normal key-ding. Only when you turn on the ignition, does the key-ding quit.
The car's brief recent history includes a rollover in the last year. Good repairs, but there was a interior lighting ghost that was troublesome for the shop.
Also, my lady was driving it the other day and wanted to know what the key-ding noise was for when she was driving a tight corner? This occured only once she says.
I have replaced the battery in the PKE fob and it seems to work fine as you approach the car is unlocks the car, but still the park lights are on and the key-ding persists. I have had to pull the battery terminal.
Has any one got any good ideas? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
Joe, I laughed when I read your post. Same things happened to me except my middle of the night alarms decided to present themselves when at a motel with about 20 other Vette couples. We tried everything the owners manual said that night (and many other things on many other days). I'll never be forgiven for the sleep many lost that night. All my friends teased me about my car being possessed by the ghost of the previous owner. No, the ghost has not been exercised from my BEAST and moved on to your car! After weeks of teasing, my mechanic said he thought the switch in one of the doors might be the culprit althought they always worked fine when tested. We finally placed a couple layers of masking tape over the black plastic spot where the switch touches the body...one door at a time. When we put the tape on the passenger side door the problem was solved. It always amazed me that one very annoying problem could manifest itself with so many seemingly unrelated symptons. I think the post with the advice to "check the switches" is right on target Good luck! Bill
Check all the things suggested, especially the door switches. Also try putting door key in both doors and turning as this is the non-pke method for disarming vats. Finnally you may want to try unhooking battery for a bit and see if this resets things back to normal.
Over the last few days i have fixed the problems. Seems the park lites were stuck on and the dinging was warning the lites were on. It all reset itself when i pulled a fuse in the A-Block of underhood fuses, but it was the 40a fuse to the 'secondary fan'. hmm.
I will consider the door switches and look at them also. i am still not sure why it set itself off??
