Default LT4 vs C5?

Just wondering how an '96 LT4 would do up against a C5(non ZO6). Anyone ever seen the two race at a track or anything?

It would depend on trans. choice (in the C5), gearing and the driver. It would be a good race, all things being equal, I think.

I think it's been established that an LT4 will run faster than the early LS1, and about even with the later LS1s, this is of course assuming that all other things are equal (ie driver, manual or auto with performance axle, etc...)

I've run several C5's with my LT4. Haven't lost to one yet! My buddy has a '04 vert, 6-spd; and I've smoked him everytime!

LT4 all the way!!!

No rub to the C5 (I kinda like them) but I would be in the corner of the LT4...them SOB's run like a cats *** on fire! :-)

My friend has one...and Christ it's fun!

My stock LT4 againts a stock C5 would beat them most of the time. Now as soon as the C5 gets any kind of modification I'm either running even or chasing tail lights.

Friend and fellow forum member had on 03 6-speed. We have been several time. Both cars with cold air and exhaust were within a few hundreths. 12.90s to 13.0s on same night. With some good LS-1 Edit, he's about .15 faster now.

the LSx has way more untapped potential than the LT4.

Are we talkin' stock for stock? (down to the paper filter????)

I don't know what y'all are talkin' about....my stock 2000 C5 Vert M6 toasted a (i assume stock) 1996 collector edition M6 on an on ramp hittin' the freeway....i was pullin' the whole time????? This was 3 months ago after I just bought it......

If your LT-4 has mods and you are racing a stock C5, no question....and vice versa

I think they have similar power and it comes down to the driver....but to say an LT-4 smokes a LS-1 is just plain....umm...where is....oh...here it is.....

"my stock 2000 C5 Vert M6 toasted a (i assume stock) 1996 collector edition M6 on an on ramp hittin' the freeway"

Just because it was a CE doesn't mean it was an lt4. Even if it was a lt1 I don't see how you woulda "toasted" it. My stock 95 vert a4 3.07 was a quicker car at the track than a 99 coupe a4 2.73 I had so it must have been a sucky driver to have TOASTED it.

Look bro,

I know all CE's weren't LT-4's.....Most not all M6's were LT-4's....he had a stick, so I assume it was an LT-4. How do I know, because he was in neutral at the light, like i was. His tail lights were not on, so no braky....i don't think he shifted his auto into neutral at the light.....

Second, I'm not talkin' about an A4 w/ 2.73's.... (2.73's are worthless IMO)....

Can't compare an A4 to M6.....I was talkin' stock for stock LT-4 vs. LS-1 M6......

Toasted is a little strong maybe, but from a dig I would have pulled atleast a bus length up to 120....easy.

ALL 1996 M6's have LT4's.

I know nothing about your car, or the car you raced, but there is no way in hell in a race you would put a bus length, by 120 mph, on a LT4, drivers being equal. (Assuming you are not supercharged, no N20, or 380+ cubed).

First I would like to correct you about that. Not all 1996 M6's were LT-4's .....do some research bro...

They had problems w/ the intro of the LT-4's and made some 96's w/ M6's w/ the LT-1.....very rare, but not ALL. Go ahead and ask Ladimer, he will know more than I....he is on the C4 forum somewhere...

Second, I had over a full car length on the M6 CE I raced. I know he was hitting it because I saw the exhaust smoke come from his pipes.....I
had to slow down on the on ramp and 80 to 110 = a car length....

I don't know if his vette was beat, needed a tune or what....I am not saying all LT-4's will get eaten, but I am just telling you what honestly happened....

I know I am in the C4 section....love them, owned a black 94 M6.

What does a stock LT-4 run on the dyno....I have never seen any numbers on a dyno jet.....LT-1's are between 255 and 270....

Stock LS-1's are doing 295 to 311.....

Stock for Stock- same gear, trans, equal drivers, pre 01 LS1 had 345HP, the stock LT4 has 300HP (yea I know at the flywheel)..how does a car with 45 less HP stay equal or beat a car with 45 more HP? I like C4's to , so this is no flame..just a reality check

unless I have mistaken the stock HP on the LT4

Yes, you have. GM quoted the LT4 as having 330 hp, however on a dyno they tend to show closer to 350 hp. The reason GM understated the HP of the LT4 was because they didn't want everyone thinking that the old model engine (LT4) had more hp than the new LS1.
