Default PKE issue maybe?

well i just come back from the store and i get out to walk into the front door at home. get a few feet a way and the doors lock and horn chirps......and then it keeps on chirping about 5 or 6 times. it's the first time that this has happened to me.
any ideas? low battery in the remote?

My 94 shop manual states the following tests (not sure if a 96 is the same or not)

Key in ignition
ignition in OFF position
Ground pin 8 on the DLC connector-

And the PKE light in the dash should flash trouble codes...

Codes:

12 receiver bad memory
13 transmitter not in range
14 non-valid transmitter received
15 valid transmitter received
16 passenger door button depressed
17 hatch button depressed

it says that codes 12, 13 and 14 display the current state of the system while 15, 16 and 17 are function codes which require the transmitter to be in range to confirm that the receiver has functioned correctly. It also says that the trouble codes are not stored in the PKE system...meaning that what you see flashing is the current status not a malfunction from a time prior...

It says that a bad battery will diminsh the distance from the antenna when the system can be activated and\or de-activated...meaning the better the battery- the farther away it will work...it does not say anything about multiple horn beeps though???

there should be a green light on the PKE receiver (in the dash) that shows a proper transmitter programmed and in range...

Hope any of this helps!
