My local mechanic has advised me to begin adding an oil additive called TX7 to try to minimize blow-by. He also states that this will work wonders for my 89. I've always been told not to add these types of additives due to the age of the engine. I have 127K miles now.
Any thoughts?

The only oil additive I've ever seen actually do anything is Restore. I have personally experienced two cases where Restore stopped engines from smoking.
99% of the time I'd say avoid the snake oil stuff....it's a waste of money.
