Selective Ride Control
Afternoon everyone. Quick question regarding the Selective Ride Control. Had to briefly move the Vette out and back in the garage today and as I was backing it in the service ride control light came on. Is it possible that the roughness of the brakes causing the car vibrate while backing in trigger the light? I was inching the car back in to her spot and you know how the brakes can shudder a little while moving so slow. Or do I have bigger problems lurking? If not fixed right away could this cause more damage? OR was she just pissed off at me for not driving her on such a beautiful 82 cloudless day?

Well I took the car to pick up my daughter from school and it did not come on. Even switched the shocks around a few times there and back. Gotta love electronics.

It's not the electronics, its the mechanical drives that are MONITORED by the electronics. If the car sits around sometimes the shock seals will slow the response of the shock feedback to the electronic controller. The fact that you mention its fine now suggests you need to DRIVE IT more.....LOL
Most times it just needs to move the actuator around to "break it back in". Or you may actually have an actuator that is on it's way out and your starting to see a warning sign that the plastic gear is starting to "crack". I'd pull the code and see which one it was and then verify the actuator isn't degrading and then check the torque of the hold down bolt (if a front shock is in question) for proper seating.

Wow, thats an answer!!! Thanks! Does anyone know how much a scanner is to retrieve codes?
Paperclip. Free. Use the paperclip to connect terminals A and C on the ALDL. "A" is the upper row right-most socket and "C is the 2nd one to the left from that. They are in this order: E D C B A
With the clip in place, turn the ignition key to the RUN position but don't start the motor. The SRC light will begin to flash. Each flash of the light is counted as part of a 2-digit code. Each flash of the number is about a half-second apart with the 2nd number starting after a full second. Each code value is repeated 3 times and a Code 12 always starts and finishes the code values stored.
So it may look like this if a code 23 is stored
12= blink blink-blink, blink blink-blink, blink blink-blink
23= blink-blink blink-blink-blink, blink-blink blink-blink-blink, blink-blink blink-blink-blink.
12= repeat to end the sequence.
The process repeats as long as the ignition is on and the paperclip is in place. All codes stored will be displayed in this fashion so there could be a variety of codes.
Hmm whats this ALDL thing we are speaking of? Where is it physically? I need to pull a few codes off mine, and obv. it would be nice if I can use the speedo method... Newb alert, more info plz!
The ALDL is located just below the carpeted portion of the underdash hush panel on the right side. Look in the corner where the dash meets the driver's side of the console (just in front of where your right knee would be when you're sitting in the seat. There may be a plastic cover over itl it just pulls off.
Does the speedo display ECM/CCM codes in the 91?? I thought that was 92 and later.

Its the black thing under the steering wheel (where the carpet wraps up under the dash). Rectangular in shape. Its where mechanics n what not plug the diagnostic equipment into.

ahhh hell!! LOL
well, that c4vettes.com site had a listing of all the codes and what they meant. When you jump the A to G things (upper right to lower left) in the ALDL and turned the key to run, it would flash C12 then go through banks 1 4 and 9. If any codes showed up (say H34) that meant you have a code 34 in the history, which you'd then look up and see what it means. I knew I should have copied that damn list
