Default Need Opinion 89 Vert!!!

A co-worker of mine, has a 89 Convertible which says he wants to sell, although I wish he wouldnt. He feels that he needs 15K out of it, given that he has over 18k invented in the last two years. Below are the particulars. Please let us know your opinions.

1989 Corvette Convertible
60000 miles
Dark red metallic with saddle interior, Brand new custom leather seats, polished wood trim etc.
Chromed Z-r1 wheels with new tires
Factory Hardtop
Six speed trans
Much engine chrome
Was a previous modified class winner at most Florida Corvette shows.
near mint condition.
Thanks

Please keep in mind...The owner of the car will have a much better idea what his car is worth. So Im not trying to "discount" his car in any way.

$15k seems a bit high to me. Ive been shopping for a while for a corvette. I came accross several 89's verts from $8k (needed stuff) to $12k in really nice condition.
Kelly blue book High Retail is $11,000 or so.
I know you can find cheaper. But if you trust your friend and are sure you wont have to sink a bunch of money in it, It may be worth it to you.
If the car is in the condition you say..$15k would probably be cheaper than buying a "Fixer upper" For $10 to 11k. And surely less hassel.

I dont think you'd get that out of it if you tried to resell it though.
Keep in mind Even the show winners need stuff if you drive them regualy.

Just my 2 cents.

What he 'needs' and what he 'gets' may not be the same.

Rule of thumb is you'll be lucky to get back half of what you invest in a car (in repairs and in mods). That means the car should fetch $9K...which sounds about right.
But...you can get a fixer-upper for $5K, sink another $4k in it and probably not have as nice a Corvette as that one.
Offer him $10K, then sit back and wait.

Thanks guys, but I am not buying my buddies Corvette, just trying to help him sell it and establish the market value. I just dont know enough about the C-4 market to make a judgement.
