Default Oil Change & Filter Problem

Recently did my own oil change and per "The Forum" ideas went with Mobil 1 oil and Mobile 1 filter. The problem came when installing the new Mobil 1 filter. It was such a tight fit between the heat shield and oil pan, I couldn't get it tight enough. So, went with a slightly longer, smaller diameter Amsoil SDF-23 so I could get some leverage to tighten it properly. Has anyone else experienced this lack of clearance with the shorter squatty sized filter? Thanks in advance for all you help the last two years.

I also use the AC/Delco PF-52's and I've never had a problem with hand tightening them...

Simple solution: get the K&N. It has a handy nut on the bottom.
There are cheap oil filter "sockets" that grip the very bottom of the filter and use a 3/8" drive. They work, too.

I'm using AC-Delco Ultraguard Gold UPF-52 filters I got at the dealer before they quit mking them and they work fine. The standard AC Delco PF-52 or any other brand filter for the LT1 should work fine.

I hand tighten mine by going 3/4 of a turn past where the rubber gasket in the filter contacts the base just like the instructions state and have never had any problems with getting it tight or any leakage. Are you putting a film of oil on the rubber gasket as the instructions state?
