Greetings to all from John Boy Walton country. As a recent (and extremely happy) owner of my first 'Vette (85 Coupe) I look forward to becoming an active member of the corvette community.First off please forgive me if I ask questions that have been addressed at least a million times but it's all new to me.First question: What is the weakest link or biggest problem area w/the early C-4's? And has anyone got an opinion on dealing with "ZIP C4" in Mechanicsville,Va. for parts and info? Thanks in advance and looking forward to talking with everyone and meeting some.

Can't answer your questions, but since I was stopping by I thought I'd be the first to welcome you to a great forum. You'll find plenty of answers and friendly folk here.
Welcome aboard. C-4s especially the early ones have many weak spots. Thats why we own them, to fix the weak spots and keep them on the road for 20 years and some with 300000 miles.

Welcome aboard.
The weakest link in the C4 is usually the driver.
Seriously, there doesn't seem to be one particular item that you can count on to expire. They are just solid Chevys and the normal wear items (brakes, wheel bearings, etc.) are typical areas to look out for.
You'll find out what areas on YOUR Corvette need attention soon enough! Then, you can check the archives here to get advice first, followed by posting the question to gather current wisdom.

Welcome to the Forum! It would not hurt to get catalogs from all the suppliers and then compare prices. A few are Mid America Motorsports, Corvette Central, Ecklers, The Last Detail, Superior Chevrolet, Corvette America. Do a Google search to find their websites.

Welcome to the obsession (that's the forum AND Corvettes) and congrats on knowing the difference between to and too! Do you also know the difference between there, their and they're? If so, you're already ahead of the curve! Ah, there's another one... your and you're! Look forward to hearing more about you and your car.
Welome and congrats on the new Vette. Every vette has it's own weak points, the nice thing to know is you've come to the one place where people can help when you have a problem.
Well I certainly can relate to that. Everything works on mine but the brightness level seems to have a mind of it's own sometimes. I have gathered that there is a photocell somewhere on the left side of the dash that has some control over this, but as of yet can't seem to locate it. Any thoughts on this?

That Photo cell in in a hole on the left side of the driver dash near the light switch. If you cover it up, with the light switch on The dash should go dim , simulating darkness, and should brighten up when exposed in the daylight.
Dashes are almost universally the most troublesome part of our vetts. I had mine rebuilt and it'e been fine ever since. The majority of the time , the problem with the dash is a poor ground. Try searching the forum on this topic as there has been volums written about it. Good luck and welcome.
