Default Yet another "What would you do??" (long)

Ok, I'm closing up my business tonight (indoor skatepark) and parents are coming and picking up their kids. I always park my Vette front row by the door where I can keep an eye on it and usually have no problems. There's this kid who has been a long time good customer of mine who has a, well, lets just say he has a dad thats, well, a lil' milk toast fella if you get my drift. This pansey drives like a champagne color Riverria or a New yorker or some crap and I look out the front door and he has pulled right up close beside the Vette and although I did not see it, his door is open and against my baby!!! So I step out the door and he sees me and quickly pulls the door away. So I, as politely as possible, say "Hey, you didn't hit my car with your door did you?" And he is like "Oh no I wouldn't dare! I'm being careful! Dont worry!" Now it was dark and other parents and kids were around so I quickly glanced at the Vette and didn't see a mark and let it go. Then when I get her home and in the well lit garage I find a nice little champagne colored scuff in my paint on the door. It mostly buffed out but it WAS PERFECT before.
The thing that bothers me most is that he always has some jealous sounding remarks about how nice it must be to have such a fine car. So, it makes me feel that it was on purpose. Now his son is a good kid and lives with his mother and, as already stated, a great customer of mine. So, what would you guys do??? I SO WANT to thrash his stupid sissy face against his faggy champagne car and key scratch the hell out of it while the biatch watches from a puddle of his own blood!! But as we all know, thats out of the question Not worth the jail time and bad rap for my business....so what would you guys do???

Sorry to here! I know what I would like to do but you can not do that either(LOL) Park where Jerks like that can not park beside ya. Its not the kids fault that his DAD is a jerk. Put something in the space next to your baby so he can not park there. Good Luck

I would've walked over and immediately looked at the car. If I saw anything, before he moved his car, I'd of asked him if you could open his door, and matched the mark, and then insisted that you trade insurance information, or asked him to pay for any potential damage, or insist that the police come and file a report.

Now that time has elapsed, you won't likely have any recourse if it DOESN'T buff out. I always try to get as much documentation quickly as I can of ANYTHING... Never know when it will make a difference later. I carry a cheaper digital camera in the car, just in case.

As far as what to do NOW... Do you have any security cameras on the parking lot? Perhaps you can see it happen on the camera, and will be able to approach it from that angle.

Otherwise... I think your SOL, unless you can find witnesses.

Good luck, my friend.

My theory has always been simple - If you've got a problem with something the kid did, take it out on the dad, since the kid's too young. Now, in this case, the problem lies with the dad. Try explaining to him that he DID hit your car with his. If he doesn't apologizes (worst yet, denies it again) then put the hammer down - Boot his mirror off and say "Oh, I'm sorry, I was being careful, I didn't do that".

You can't let others dictate your mood. Folks are always hitting other people's cars with thier doors. You like the kid so let it go.
It sucks but its not life threating.

My Lincoln got a big wack from someone with a white car, paints still there. You can't find anywhere far enough away to avoid it. If you drive it its going to show it.

You don't like the guy anyway and this just made it worse.
Lifes too short to hold on to anger. Anger is a fire that burns from within and destroys all that it touches.

Just my opinion, but you are in need of some serious counselling. Your concept of others is really on the low end and for a guy who makes his income from public participation, well, get you act tohether.

First, park the car out of harms way if you are so **** about its fit and finish. When we turn cars into daily drivers, we expose them to many hazards and in parking lots, open doors are a constant.

Second, when you ****** this guy out of his car to teach his a lesson, be not supprised when you find yourself either dead, seriously injured or looking at handcuff city. Judges have no mercy for large people who pick on and assult small people. Think twice, yake a breath and walk away.

Third, the kind and color of car has nothing to do with the individual you have already judged. Time for a major mental reprogram about your fellow man.

Just remember, scratches on a car exterior is no beggie, but time in an institution where someone else has the key is a huge biggie and may be hazardous to your future. Chill.

You could just borrow a crappy old junker from a friend (everyone has at least one friend with a car like this) take it to work park next to the dad and return the favor.

Let it go. Get a beater for a daily driver and keep the vette in the garage except when driving it for pleasure.

Whew! Everybody's got an opinion - you asked- here's mine. You're already in your cooling-off period, which is good. Call the guy, explain the problem, and give him a chance to correct his mistake. Don't challenge him or "press his buttons" - you know he's probably already paranoid or worse.

I'm not sure about Texas, but here "STUPID" is not yet a capitol offense - if it were, this place would be empty! He is definitely stupid - don't join him on his level - be the better man - be the Vette driver!

You have a right to be angry & dislike this guy intensely..
You say this guy was jealous of your car; I believe that jealous people are also dangerous people.
If this guy did this on purpose out of jealousy, he is sick in the head.
Now, if you retaliate what's he gonna do???
He will go to the police and lie, lie, lie.
Whats cheaper, getting the car fixed or hiring a lawyer.

Dude, you need to chill out and let it go. You can't prove it was him. And if you are so concerned about the car perhaps you shouldn't park it in a public parking lot. Dings happen.

When you park Corvettes, you have to be careful and put it in a place out of the way, like in a far corner of the lot. It may be a longer walk, but it will be away from the mostly used areas, which should lessen the odds of something happening. Don't park near the front door where people pass by with packages, handbags, skates (yikes!). Keep it out of people traffic. Let it be away from people to see. A lesson learned, but sometimes things happen anyhow, no matter where you park. It's only a material thing

While there's not much you can DO, there is something you can SAY to relieve the internal pressure (and I know how internal pressure can be!).
Next time you see him, calmly and with a smile on your face, say, "You and I both know that you DID put a mark on my car and IF I ever see your car within five feet of my Corvette, I WILL consider it willful vandalism and WILL file a police complaint
...then give him an exagerated wink and walk away.

Well guys, I appreciate all of your thoughts and replies, except for one, and to you I'm just real sorry. I'm sorry if I pushed your defense button but I just dont understand or much care for, uhm, guys like that..or ones who act like the douche that hit my car anyway. He probably sees the Vette the same way he sees a pretty woman..hates them because he cant be one without expensive surgery, which he cant afford. Just like he cant afford a Vette. But unlike him, I have never let it show that I might not care for him and have been nothing but nice...but thats another thread, and not for this forum. I guess because the guy is still alive and I let it go on the spot and no scene was created and it's all over now is a sign that "MY ACT" is together. Counseling? ..heh heh, no, I'm good thank you. Nothing happened.

StarShipCmdr said it best "You're already in your cooling-off period, which is good."

Thats all it was. I needed to vent. Share the story to other Vette people. Get it off my chest. Like I said, the scuff buffed out. It is gone now...as is my anger..I have already chilled. Under the cicumstances, I thought I handled it admirably. There will be no further action taken. I just wanted to see what some of you would have done. Thats all....<END DRAMMA>

Thanks all!

That's what I was going to say. For business reasons, you have to let it go. You should be driving a beater to work to leave outside all day, and leave the Vette safely at home. JMHO

sometimes we just have to see the message in the action. As most of us say get yourself a beater to take to work, especially if work is around playful children,if thats possible.Don't let going in front of a judge to explain assault take away from driving that vette.we really don't get enough time to drive these babies,I' sure you'll be ok
