Default Speaker fitment question?

Will a 6.5" speaker fit in replacement of the front speakers on the 90-96 models that have the front speaker below the door in the sill area? TIA

I'm not sure? See if Crutchfield can shed some light on the subject for you. They may have a replacement guide.

i've got 5.25" up front with modified Bose enclosures and there is some room for a bigger speaker if custom enclosures are used. however, i don't think anything above 6" will fit.

A 6" WILL fit... you just have to build the enclosures to make it fit!

I did... and I will try to post the instructions in Audio tomorrow.

I put a set of component CDTs up front, with 6 1/2 drivers... You need to custom build an enclosure... I was on a time budget (can't be without the car for any larger given amount of time), so I cut into the pastic and literally mounted them to the plastic under the carpet. They barely fit that way, but it works. One of these days, I'll get more ambitious and build something to sit behind it for added support, but for now, it works.

I installed 6.5 " JBL EC 6.2 component speakers. I took out the amp and speaker box and had the guys fit them in. THey used some MPF board and it fit with not cutting of the inner door.

THey also installed JBL GTO936 6 x 9's in the hatch area with no cutting required.

I went with JBL cuz when I was in the BEST BUY store, I listened to Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony, Rockford Fosgate and JBL. I thought the JBL sounded better than any other speaker they had there.

yes.

You have to make a baffle to adapt the 6x9 to the space, but yes, it will fit.

Infact, with some trickery, you can fit 8"s in there!!!

I have 6 x9 in mine, but I have the covers that came with the speakers, and a plywood baffle.

A baffle is a generic term for any adaptor plate that fits a speaker into a hole.

As for dimentions...

These are rough, at best... and requires some fitting to make it right.

What I did was measure the depression where the old speakers went and started from there.

Approx. 11" x 8.5" - this is a 1/4" thick berch plywood. 2 angled pieces, .75" x 2" x 6". The angled pieces are mounted flush with the top.

You WILL have to cut the rocker cover to snug fit this in. I plan on working on this some more this week. I will update things with some pics.
