Default Lt1 Vs. Ls1

Hey guys I have a 1996 LT1 Coupe 300hp. auto. 13k miles all stock.
My buddy has a 1998 LS1 Coupe 345hp. auto. 21k miles also all stock.
How do you think my 96' would do against his 98' in a stoplight race?

Also isnt the 96' a better quality vette than a 98'?

You mean at the dragstrip right?(no street racing stories here)

Every LS1 I've raced at the track, I have beat. But it doesn't take much to get the LS1 even better.

I have several videos of me racing stock and modified LS1's and although I didn't beat the modified's time, I did beat him to the finish line(these were all heads up time shots).

If I can get away to do a quality conversion, I may try and post the vids.

Actually pretty much neck and neck. It wasn't until 2001 when Chris NJ C5 bested my best time by .01 until then nobody was close, and in an actual race I was always ahead.

Everyone talks about the LT1 like it's crap, but mine has held up very well and it is still untouched and clocked 125,000 miles so far.

The Lt-1 makes good power all the way across the curve. The LS-1 makes more power up top. Mr Mojo's set-up keeps the power band across the finish line. The Ls-1 will reel you in if you keep going though the light. Beware, that's where they start to make the extra ponies.

also, the LS1 has tons of power making potential... and will rev to the sky (compared to the LT1).

just becareful of one thing - if the LS1 has gears, you are TOAST.

Well I have yet to be beat by a stock early ls1. A z06 will obviously blow me out of the water and a later ls1 might be able to barely get me. At the track I'm getting a best of 13.2 @104 that has been my best ever. I think with that 98 you have a good chance to atleast tie it...what gears do you have 2.59 or 3.07? that right there will either lose or win the race for you probably. When you race him air the tires down to 22psi, works great for me!

oh ya mine a 95 vert a4 3.07s which is the same car as yours unless you only have the 2.59's so trust me your car will hang with the ls1.

My 93 automatic with 3.07 up against my buddies 99 auto with 3.33 or 3.45 not quite sure on that on a nice cool nite. The 93 average time was 13.7 at 103 60' at 1.95 . The 99 ran average 13.3 Both cars at the time were stock.

I've rarely seen a stock ls-1 run good at the track. When my 94' only had exhaust, ram air and rockers the 97' and 98' were an easy win. I believe if you know your car and drive it better then he can his you'll win. Just remember the ls-1 has sick pull after 100 and most of the c5 owners I know hate coming out of the hole and like 2nd gear roles; that being said you should do good at the track

No, I definately wouldn't say a '96 is a better quality Vette by any stretch of the imagination than a '98.

My C4 had a more raw sports car feel to it..... but even after the moderate mods I had done to my '92 LT1 (exhaust, intake, programming, etc) I'd not have been wanted to run it against my '99 LS1 (stock). Especially since I've also done those same type of mods to it as well. Don't have any numbers to back anything up, but I just know my '99 would come out on top... would be better from a stand-still and have more room at the top as well. Though, it would be a good race.

You want opinions, or factual results?
Race him and find out.
Don't be afraid of losing; exactly half the people who race lose...
Don't be surprised if he beats you, either...but so what?
