Default Headers For '94?

What HEADERS do the FORUM members who own '94 6 Speeds run? IT has been suggested on some CITES that only the so called "SHORTIES" will fit the '94 with a 6 Speed Trans. WHAT HEADERS ARE YOU RUNNING?

Shorties are the only headers that will fit w/o exhaust reconfiguration, but the gain is minimal, at best. As far as long tubes go, Exotic Muscle, TPIS, Hookers, Stainless Works, Hedman (they make cheapies and nice ones) are a few that come to mind. Having a manual car you are at an advantage re/ cat relocation (aftermarket bullet cats will be required) but it is very do-able and a worthwhile mod that is legal in most states, done properly.

I have a 1994 with shortie headers and the gain was 0 hp but the heat in the engine compartment is unreal.
The exaust on your 94 was at it's max from the factory.
I changed back to stock.
I installed bee hive springs and roller rockers push rods and gained 28 hp.Added an lt4 knock sensor and ported my throttle body added nitto drag radials and that was the most power gain.

Shorties are useless. You will see some power gain if you go with long tubes, but even this is minimal on a stock motor. Some will tell you that you should stick with 1 5/8" headers on a stock motor, most long tubes you find will be 1 3/4" Ask yourself what the car's future is. 1 3/4" will provide you with a healthy mid range torque and upper in HP gain and will allow you plenty of headroom for future mods. 1 5/8" headers will probably give you a little more low end grunt but will eventually run out of breath if you install heads / cam and start making real power.

Brand has a lot to do with it. I watched a man fry his #1 plug wire on his TPIS headers that were made specifically for his vette. The plug boot actually touched the primary of the header and there was nothing he could do about it. I showed him how much clearance I had with my "cheap" Hooker headers and he was royally pissed. For what he paid for his TPIS he could have bought my headers twice. Now he's into looking for special spark plugs and all kinds of special heat wraps just to make his car run for a mile without burning a boot. Meanwhile mine is a daily driver with the same plug wires for two years.

He said "I'm never buying TPIS junk again." I have to agree with him. Even if it's not "junk" it's over priced.

When I went from stock to Hooker shorties and a Corsa catback I definetly "felt" a difference. Probably from the Corsas themselves. Then I went with TPIS, Random Tech cats and a Flowmaster catback. Big difference. Car revved alot faster and would spin tires easier and I have had big tires on the back (315 to current 335's). The TPIS LT's I have are great headers but Exotic Muscle ( www.exoticmuscle.com ) are even better. But as Nathan points Hookers can be a good choice also. Also I have no problems with plug wire clearance.

I don't think shorty headers are a waste if you really take a good look at the stock exhaust manifolds. Although I would expect installation to be a PITA. I have EM full lenghts if you would like some pictures.

I have the TPIS long tube headers and never had a problem with burning a plug boot . I might add the boot is very close to the header . I have the Taylor 8mm wires so that could also be a difference , and as far as heat goes my car runs cooler since the Headers were installed ....

I think the Forum members would probably love to see some underbody & under the hood photos. THANKS ALOT!
