Overdrive Dash light???

Overdrive Dash light???
I have a 87 auto... When the sun is just in the right angle on my dash, I can see an overdrive [D] symbol in the same area as the rev. counter
Is this light surpose to come on when im in overdrive...Because it dosent...

the general used the same generic information panel for all early vettes reguardless of options... if you take the panel off you'll see behind it that there is no light, and no space for a light... so you're fine

My 87 auto also has the OD light and the upshift light.When your driving in D it's supposed to come on at a preset computer setting for fuel economy, letting you know when it's best to shift into OD. I also have another friend with an 87 and his is the same as mine.

My panel has those markings, but they never came on- I opened it up to replace the bulbs, and there are no spots for the bulbs... and I thought the upshift light was on the digital dash?

There is no functional overdrive light for automatics.
The upshift light is functional with autos and manuals `86-`89.

My 85 has no overdrive light on the panel or space for one. My 4+3 light comes on the DIC. Later year 4+3s did move the light to there though. The right hand LCD pane changed many times, I believe it was different in 84,85,86... and as mentioned, different ones for sticks or autos in some of those years.

I also have another friend with an 87 and his is the same as mine.HOWEVER!, I actually got the UPSHIFT light to come on once while climbing a long slight grade in 3rd (D) at about 35MPH. Took about two miles and the light came on! So I backed off slightly, the light went out, last time I ever saw it.
