Default Passport 8500 owners check in!

Today (and once or twice in the recent past), my 8500 started making a different alarm than anything I'd heard it do in the past. I look up, and the display reads, "SELF CAL."

I'm like, "Okay....do I need to do something?" and I press the left button - nothing. I press the right button - nothing.

It's still chirping and displaying, "SELF CAL." I just figure that it's doing it's thing, and I'll just leave it alone. After what seemed like more than a minute or two of that, it reset. Basically, it acted like it had just been turned on (cycled through the tests, and then read "Auto"). Five seconds later, "SELF CAL"!!!!!!

By now, I'm a little concerned. I hit the two buttons and once, and it displayed, "CAL3 ERR."

Has anybody else experienced their 8500 doing a Self Calibration? What's the deal here? I just wanna make sure I'm "protected" when driving! Otherwise, it may be time to give Escort a phone call...

I have had my 7500 passport for 2-3 years and never seen that. You may want to give them a call or go to their web-site and see what they say before you get a new car payment.

Give Escort a call, that probably means something is wrong with it. Mine has never done that ... hopefully you're still within the 1 year warranty period.

I've had mine for... a few months I guess, maybe 6 (X50). Never had any problems with it, I'd call passport they'll probably help you out.

I had that happen once. It went on for a 60 seconds or so then stopped and everything was back to normal. I'll read into it a little more.

Call Escort. Mine did that one day this summer, didn't stop. It drove me nuts. I called Escort, they said to send it in. Well, I would have sent it in, but it never displayed the message again. I'm thinking it was heat related but I couldn't duplicate it.

Interesting... Well, I'm glad to know that mine isn't the only unit in history to do this. Whether or not there's something wrong with it, though, is another story. I may just have to send it in... I don't think mine's heat related, as it's pretty cool up here in NorCal, but it never did this when I lived in Arizona.
