my 86 used to not like to not start up once every 2 weeks, if i turn the car off, leave for a minute to pump gas,and come back - i'd get juice but nothing to the engine, replaced the battery-alternator-hi perf. starter, the guy i bought the car from some 4 years back says if he didnt lock the doors everytime he got out of the car, the security system wont enable the car to start because it thinks perhaps sumone just cold cocked me and took my keys so it has to sit for a couple minutes to reset the system (which it would do 5 minutes later and start right up)...well ever since ive started locking the doors every single time the problem has actually stopped ! i only used to take my car to school and the doors would always stay locked - now i sumtimes leave the doors unlocked for the quick trips i never used to take - hense me not realizing the problem sooner, has this happened to anyone else???

There is absolutely no correlation between your intermittant no start condition and locking the doors.
It sounds like you have a VATS issue, which can be fixed with a 15 dollar bypass harness.

Actually, Without or with a PKE, locking electric door locks arms the VATS. But unlocking should disarm as well. It is possible that arming the system, if it has a fluke problem, could then cause it to have a problem with reading key pellet resistance. Not saying this is happening for sure but there is a correlation between the two. I just wouldn't rule anything out with the gremlins of VATS. You can find out your keys resistance value at a chevy dealer or good locksmiths and buy a .15 cent resistor from radio shack that will solve the problem. I would rig the resistor with a hidden switch so that you dont render your VATS useless. The switch is just there for YOU ONLY when VATS acts up.
