Default GM Warranty Work, Not...

Hi all -

I recently had the MoneyPit worked on by a Chevy dealer, and one of the parts they replaced was the right rear hub.

Last weekend, the guys at J&D discovered that the part had gone bad, REALLY BAD. The right rear hub had a bunch of movement. So, I did the smart thing and had J&D replace it.

I then took the "new" bad part back to the Chevy dealer who gave me a GIANT (and I mean GIANT) ration of s**t on just getting another rear hub. I wasn't asking for money back (although for $450 for the part, it was a thought), just a simple replacement.

The service manager rather smugly told me that he doubted that GM would honor the warranty because HIS mechanics didn't find the problem. I basically told him the HIS mechanics were idiots (parking brake cable disconnected, tranny 1/2 filled when returned to me) and that there was no way I'd ever let his guys work on one of my cars again.

I questioned him on the GM not covering the part, after all I'm standing there with the part and an invoice for $3500 in repairs - I kinda felt he thought I was trying to rip them off.

Needless to say, it got a little heated.

Anyway - has anyone else had something like this happen, and what did you have to do to resolve it (outside of getting a lawyer and sue the hell out of them)?

Thanks

I'd just call and tell him that if he don't make thing right with you IMMEDIATLY, you'll file your complaint in Small Claims Court today! Let him know that this is the last time he'll hear from you outside of a court room.

Dude... that blows...

Sounds like Martin hasn't improved their style, does it?

J&D seems like a good operation, too. But why didn't you bring it to me??? <sniff>

I can understand how they would feel this way - you see, they have no way of knowing if the hub came from YOUR car or someone elses.

If I have a warrantee like that, I take it back to the dealer, and stop work immediately.

Remember my mystery leak? Even J&D is stumped!! It isn't the rear seal as thought...Not the tranny lines, tranny, oil pan, valve covers, rear of the car - everything is "bone dry".

Now I'm thinking it's the P/S... ???

I love a mystery!!

I just got my car out of the shop today. It was painted...pics soon coming...

What I like about J&D is the types of vettes that go to them, there was a cat with a 1999 vert with a supercharger that had a claimed 430 rwhp...sounded awful nasty tooo.

There was a trick painted C2 that was getting body work done for a repaint. And the 55 racer gets my goat every time...not all show!

yea, I know what you mean... I am stunned that a hub failed that new, especially a GM part. Those are pretty hearty.

Still have no track on the leak? Try die in it yet?

Ivory - wanna join us for Mexican on Friday?

Check my thread in Pacific... and southwest, don't ask...

Cough up 40 smackers and have them served..You'll be surprised how quick they jump. If its a matter of money, the BBB offers an arbitration process thats F.O.C. for you from start to finish.Just let them know you won't hesitate to cost them money and you should get some satisfaction. I just went through both of these processes myself, and in the end it was totally worth it. Good Luck

This reminds of a problem my father had with the local Chevy dealer fixing a part of his truck under warranty, anyway, they were giving him a lot of crap about it, so he steps outside and calls the GM 800 number and explains the problem. The GM rep on the cell phone then asked to speak to the service manager.
Dad steps back inside and hands the phone to the service manager “Hey, it’s for you”
Service manager--- “For me” with a stupid look on his face.
Service manager on the phone---- “Yes Sir” Yes Sir” Yes Sir” “Thank you, good by”
Service manager to mechanic--- “Get this truck taken care of ASAP”

We put a hungry guy in jail when he holds up a 7-eleven and a Chevy dealer is an ok guy? Who is the bad guy? I'm confused.

I'm going through something similar right now. Sorry, I'm too lazy to post the link. I WILL have it resolved before the weekend though.

Last time ever I buy parts from a dealership.

Well -

I called GM customer service, so we'll see what happens next.
They won't give you the regional manager's name or number, but they send some message and they call you.
