Default A leased Corvette?

According to the carfax a Vette I am looking for was a leased Vette.

Over here (in the Netherlands) leasecars are familycars, used for driving
30.000+ miles a year. Also most leasecar-drivers do not care much for that car and abuse it because their boss will pay the bill when it's broke.

The Vette I saw did less than a 1000 miles a year.
It does not look abused.

Is leasing in the USA different, and could this be an o.k. car?

Are there more people over here with a leased ord pre-leased Vette?

leasing in the USA is fairly common - a way to get a new car every 2 or 3 years is the general sales pitch - no worries on a lease as the "return" policy takes into consideration - damage and wear and the "owner" must pay the leasing company for that if evident

I've had 6 new leased cars since 1993, my daily driver-not my Vette.
I just change the oil every 3K miles, thats all. I don't care about it the way I care about my Vette.

Aside from that, It sounds strange that a person would lease a Corvette [Maybe $500-700 per month], and not use it much.

On the other hand, I see Vettes in Manhatten [NYC] that are obviously leased, that are beat to shreds, because the leasee doesn't care [business expense]. Those kind of cars- I wouldn't touch.

It all depends on who leased it.
Ask for service records, it had to be serviced at a Dealership during warrentee.

Good Luck

Some people take care of their cars, some don't. You may have a higher percentage of the later group leasing, but really depends on the person.

a leasing example in my family... First we leased an Explorer, babied that thing, took meticulous care of it- whoever ended up with that Explorer got a helluva deal. Later we leased a Chevy Blazer, and for the 30,000 miles we had it we absolutely beat the **** out of that thing, every day. I pity the poor soul who ended up with that....

My '96 LT4 spent the it's first years as a lease car and was then bought by the guy who had leased it. Very low mileage( averaged 1875 miles per year) and in excellent condition. Most leases I have heard about have expensive penalties for going over the allotted milage per year.

My vette was a leased vehicle originally. I am the second owner. I did not know the original owner as it was a dealer trade in. I have had the car 3 years now and she is in great shape and no problems. I do have a slight oil leak but not enough to worry about.

It sounds like you have found a good leased Vette and it may be a great buy.

Go over it carefully and verify operation of all accessories.

Mine was a least, too. A yuppy lawyer from CA had it, moved to my area and decided he needed an SUV to get around in the winter - Bought an Escalade, and I got his Vette - Low miles, very well maintained w/all service records, and 100% bone stock. I believe it helped he was mid 50's, and too up-tight for his own good

A buddy of mine leases his sports cars and races them. He figures that with as much as he races them, its not a good idea to purchase. Besides that, he gets a new car to race every three years. Right now, hes leasing a brand new sti.

Thank you all for your replies

The car is now at a dealer so I do not know anything about the previous owner.
From the pictures it looks real good, but that does not say anything about the engine.
I have some thing to arange before being able to buy it, but after that I should go and check it out, or let somebody check it for me, as I am no mechanic and it's a couple of thousand miles away.
