So heres one for you all. Was talking with someone recently and we got on the subject of the LT4. This person proceeded to tell me how troublesome this engine is and that should you have any serious issues with it most GM shops can not help you at all. In most cases you would have to send it off to a specialty shop. They also claimed that due to rarity of the engine, it would be much harder and expensive to find a replacement engine if yours ever blew out.
Sounded a bit wild to me, so thought I would through it up here and get your opinions.
He probably was talking about the lt5 but to me it looks like the lt4 would have more bugs in it since it was a one year production motor the zr1 same out in late 89 and lasted until 95.
so maybe he was talking about the lt4...I've considered looking for one so far the only one's I have found were dawged since they're all sticks and a lot of teen tend to want to get a stick....
I don't think the lt4 or the lt5 have any major issues relaly though
sounds like bs to me. mine has 43k on it and has been bullet proof. LT4s are excellent engines, more differences than an lt1 than the heads and valve train. crank is different, few other things. the only problem i have with mine is first gear. unless you are very careful, almost useless. need some stickier tires i think. if you find a nice one, buy it. you wont be sorry. pretty quick too. my boss has an 02 c5. he can pull me sometimes, depending on how i launch. but im looking at door handles, not tailites.
on the lt5 side. i was looking at zr1s before i bought my lt4. wouldnt worry about one of those either. lots of very nice ones out there. have a very good support group. parts really arent an issue, though expensive. but i did quite a bit of research on them, and i never came accross anyone that ever had a complete come-apart with one. very solid, well engineered powerplant. sometimes i still wish i had gone that route. just my .02, your mileage may vary. regards, j.d.
