My wife gave me a complete carpet set from ACC for the '89 coupe for my B-day Now I have the installation ahead of me, I've always considered it a winter project when I have pletty of time
The question is how big of a project is this? How many hours?
Are any special tools needed? Special adhesives?
Just curious if this is something I should tackle, I've done a lot of mechanical work on the car (u-joints, wheel bearings, radiator, brakes, shocks) but I don't consider myself an "interior guru"
took me about 1 full day. i split the project up one weekend.it's not a hard job. you might be suprised by what you find. i found a full mouse skeleton and about 50 cents in change i will post some of the pics in my pic section tonight. they should be there tomorrow. have fun. no better feeling than being able to work on your own car. maent to tell you more, sorry the carpets may not fit quite right so have a good set of scissors handy for trimming.prefit, prefit, prefit before you do anything permanant. any spray adhesive should work, i used a 3m product.

drvn2fast - did you use the carpet from ACC? Curious if we are using the same thing, it's got a thick black backing on it and it's molded to the general shape of the piece. I'm sure the shop-vac will be going fullspeed when my 15yr old carpet comes out as well, hope no critters.
Did you put down any sound deadener? Not sure if I really want to.
1 day sounds real good to me. I'll probably break it up over the coarse of a week or so.
i got gm replacements from NCOA. they were molded, just needed a trim here and there. i did have to cut out for the hardtop holders and the door speakers. i used the original insulation. wasn't in too bad of shape. your new carpets probably will not match your old ones exactly. it should be very close. like i say, prefit them before you use any adhesive. you can match the old and new to see how far off you are, but i wouldn't do any trimming until after i had tried to place them in, see where they don't fit and go from there. hope this makes some sense to you, had to work OT today and am now havin a couple

Good utility knife with lots of new blades.
Clean hands often.
Be gentle and work with it on stubborn spots.
3M Spray Adhesive (Home Depot, Lowes, auto refinish distrib).
I did the full carpet change about a month ago. It took a few hours to get the interior out and a few to put it in. You could do it in one full day if you want to committ the entire day from morning to night. I did it over two weekends with a day on each weekend. The carpet I used had the mass backing and was molded to fit just like the original. You will need the 3M high strength adhesive or any carpet adheasive. I did purchase the interior screw kit and used new screws where ever they are visible. The carpet set I used was purchased from a seller on ebay that sells a lot of this carpet. It worked well and I have no complaints at all. I was sure to use the mass backed carpet (not the poly backed). I did use some sound deadener sheets in the rear hatch area and behind the seats. It lowered the interior sound marginally. You could do without it.
