I have a 94 LT1 with selective ride. I'm gonna do shocks this winter. I am looking at shox.com but i'm confused. The only selective ride shock they seem to have is for ZR1. My car is not a ZR1 but is selective ride. Which shocks do i need? Go to www.shox.com and search 1994 Corvette.
I believe the first Corvettes that the selective ride option was offered on were ZR1's. My '92 came with selective ride but I converted over to Bilstein Heavy duty because I wanted a softer ride and the adjustable shock actuators were also bad (4 adj. shocks and 4 actuators = big bucks and I'm cheap). I know you can have the shocks repaired at a substantial savings by Bilstein but I'm not sure the actuators are repairable (help me here guys). I have saved all the components in case the next owner wants to have them repaired and re-install them. I have protected the plug ends on the car so they will not become packed with dirt and other stuff.
It's not difficult at all. I wrapped the plug ends on the car with plastic, duct taped around the plastic wrapping and zip tied them so they wouldn't flop around. I check the fronts every so often to make sure the coverings I put on them are still in place. For the rears, I attached a 12 inch length of wire to the plug end with another zip tie and pushed the loose wire end to the rear inside the frame member. Once you unplug the actuator, you need to make a provision that if you ever do want to reinstall the adjustable shocks (rear), you can easily access the plugs for the rear actuators. The tops of the rear shocks attach to some brackets that insert up inside the frame (when you see them it will make more sense). It took more time to wrap the plugs for the actuators and secure them than it did to actually remove and replace the shocks.
